Atlanta GA: UPDATES Zack - CAN SOMEBODY GIVE HIM A CHANCE???? PLEEEEEEZE??????

DEB PUCKETT WROTE 6/16/08:

Yes, Zack has been saved. When I meet Phyllis tomorrow at the Briarcliff to bring him home, I will find out when he can be groomed. I will take him to Sara's and take care of that. I'm sure he'll love having a day of beauty.

I'll keep everyone posted on how he's adjusting. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing between Zack and my two girls, Ming Choi (2 years) and Mocha (nine years.) Both Chow-Chows.

PHYLLIS BEDFORD WROTE 6/16:

Hi Everyone,
Zack was freed from his chains Saturday and it turns out he is just a sweet boy who wants to love and be loved. He does still need a forever home but Deb stepped forward to foster him and that makes her a real life saver because without a place to put him, he'd have gone to DASE Saturday. He's being neutered today and will go into foster care tomorrow. THANK-YOU Deb! And Deb wouldn't have known if it weren't for all the great cross-posting everyone did so THANK-YOU to everyone who passed on yet another "dog needs a home" e-mail, you all had a hand in saving Zack too.
Each of you helped with saving Zack in some way - cross-posting, offering donations for vet services, supplying owner release forms, and just keeping me from losing hope. A huge thank-you to David York who stepped up and paid for Zack's shots, neutering, and week-end boarding and who has also volunteered to put Zack on a web page to hopefully find his home. Many thanks to Silvi and Georgia for going with me to get Zack off his chain literally just hours before he was turned over to DeKalb County Animal Control. And I also want to thank St Jude because this was truly a hopeless case and I turned to him for help first. (Thanks Viola!)
I just know that
Zack is going to be the perfect dog for the right person - if you can help him find that right person, please let me know. I'm attaching a photo taken this Sunday - hope it turns out alright. Please feel free to cross-post!
Zack : Chow mix
Age: 1 - 2 years
Sex: Male - NEUTERED
Weight: 47 pounds but could use a few more, too thin really.
History: Was put on a chain as a puppy and left behind on same chain when owners moved. Neighbors got tired of hearing him cry and took him to another woman who put him in her fenced in yard but would not allow him in the house. He began to climb the fence and was chained again. Released by owner and from his chains 6/14/08.
Disposition: Sweet, wants to love and be loved more than anything, got along well with a female dog. Needed an adjustment period and some guidance with a male dog but then got along well with male dog after a long walk together. Young, energetic, eager to please. No idea how he gets along with children or cats but is a sweet boy.
Caution: Will climb a fence if left alone in fenced in yard.

6/13/08 UPDATE: Phyllis reports that thankfully a kind foster mom is now giving Zack temporary safe shelter but he needs a permanent placement in a loving forever home ASAP. His short life has not been lucky so the sooner his luck turns around for good, the better.

Sweet faced Zack was abandoned, left chained in the back yard when his first owners moved. Neighbors coaxed Zack into their car by throwing meat in and gave him to a co-worker of mine who told me Monday he has to go. Zack climbed out of the fence Friday May 30th and a neighbor said he bit her dog. Since then Zack has been chained 24/7 and unless someone can take him in, she'll have DeKalb Animal Control pick him up. He won't survive DeKalb AC and frankly I don't know how much longer he can survive chained in her backyard in this heat. She won't let him stay in the house because he's 'too big'. Zack looks like a chow mix, he is intact male, approximately 1 - 1 1/2 years old. Zack is a 'sweet dog' who craves love and attention. When these pictures were taken he kept nudging her hand asking for her to pet him but she told him that he didn't get to tell her what to do, she is in charge. Zack has not had any shots or been groomed because my coworker 'Can't get him in the truck'. However she has been feeding him chewable heart worm medication and putting flea prevention on him that she had left over from her cocker spaniel who failed to make it back home one day. Zack, who wants to be loved, apparently has never had a decent break in his short life and unless someone can take him, he will be euthanized. Death will release him from his chain and the unrelenting heat but I am hoping someone will be able to give him a chance at a life free from chains, free from suffering, free from neglect and filled with the love he craves. If anyone can help, please call me at either home (404) 876-2593 or work (404) 413-2125. I honestly don't know how much longer she will wait before turning him over to animal control - please help if you can and please pass this on to anyone else who might be able to help. Thank you,Phyllis
