Sick Siamese, NEEDS your help! OR will die!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've attached a picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A few weeks ago, a skinny, flea ridden, and sad eyed siamese came into the Valley River Humane Society. He was a sad boy. The employees gave him a more "Cheerful" name, McBergie to make him more adoptable.

He was very sweet at first, a little shy, but sweet. Then he came down with terrible upper respitory. He was coughing, hacking and having a hard time breathing.
The employees treated him and he HATED the medicine. He became very aggressive and was acting extremely terrified. After a few days of the terrifying ordeal of being strapped down, and forcefully medicated, he coulnd't take it anymore. He because aggressive and tried to bite and scratch. So... they stopped giving him his medicine. Now he hides in the back of the cage, Terrified of what is going to happen to him.

WE all know what will happen to him! The shelter is full, he is sick and terrifed. What are his oddS??? He is a beautiful cat, who does have a great personality and just deserves the chance to SHOW it.

PLEASE!!! A resuce or home must be found by friday! This cat has been starved, forgotten, restrained, and now sits in a dark room, in the back of a cold cage, terrified of what will happen next, because he knows what is the next step in his life... death.

In order for the animals that survived the catastrophic flood in Lewis
County to survive the winter, donations of hay or money to purchase
hay are needed. While the Dairy Federation and The Farm Bureau have
provided hay for the dairy farmers and others who depend on their
animals for their livelihood, many people who purchased hay for their
animals lost all their hay and other belongings in the flood. These
families are struggling to remove the mud and debris from their
property and rebuild their homes. While these families don't depend on
their remaining animals for livelihood, they care for these animals
and in many cases went to extreme measures to save them from drowning.
These families had already purchased hay to feed their animals through
the winter. They lost all their hay in the flood and they don't have
the resources to purchase it again. These families have lost so much
that we are trying to help them with this one thing. We have
distributed hay to families in Lewis, Thurston and Grays Harbor
Counties. Each semi we bring in is costing about $7500.00 for about 30
tons and the cost is increasing every month. While we received
monetary donations and donations of hay in December, the help is
drying up. Fundraising to continue to provide hay have been
exhausting.
We would appreciate any help available, either hay or the money to
purchase hay. We have been distributing it as fast as it is coming in,
but we do have a barn to store it if we get ahead of the need at all.
All monetary donations will go to purchase feed to help these animals.
There are no administrative costs, salaries or overhead costs. If you
would like to make a credit card donation to help the animals, please
go to www.folcas.org or contact Patty Kaija at 360-508-0151 or

Stanford KY:Emergency.Rescue fell thru. 7 left to save, put to death Monday 2/4

Crossposting need for TODAY
Please save Padriac, Shelby, Jesse Bear, Magnolia, Achilles, and the two new arrivals Stuart and Penelope Pitstop this weekend. Will be put to sleep on Monday.
Padriac: http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10186111

Shelby: http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=9911591
Jesse Bear: http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10099759

Each of the five remaining large dogs have a $25 sponsorship
associated with them. The money will be paid directly to each approved receiving
rescue; that way, shelter staff will not have to handle this additional
responsibility as things continue to wind down.

Please continue to contact Jenise, the shelter liaison, at
smithszoo62 at yahoo.com or smithszoo62 at hotmail.com , if you
need additional information about any of these remaining dear souls or if you can
offer assistance in ANY way. She will be closely monitoring all of her
messages throughout the weekend.

She is also working on finding additional boarding for any of these
seven, should it be needed beyond Monday. Please contact her if you'd like
to potentially contribute to such boarding fees. Anyone in the
Lexington, Stanford, or Danville, KY areas that could potentially help with the first leg of various transports that are being set up should also contact Jenise; right
now she's truly trying to head in four directions at once!

The fact that these precious pups are still alive today is a true
testament to the continued hard work and dedication from the Lincoln County
Animal Shelter staff and Jenise, their only volunteer.

Stuart, an already neutered, ~20-pound, ~2-3-year-old Pug/Beagle mix with a curly tail, is the cutie on the right in the photo below. His Petfinder file says it best, "He could truly be called 'The Ambassador of Friendliness.' Stuart loves everyone - dogs, humans...he doesn't care. He's just happy to be around you. The shelter staff are perplexed as to how a cute, little lovebug like Stuart ended up at the shelter. And his little underbite adds to his character and charm. But Stuart's story isn't all smiles and sunshine. It is a heartbreaking tragedy, that a sweet, little, 'never-met-a-stranger' guy is going to have this be his end."
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10186209

How in the world Penelope Pitstop, a petite (~15 pounds), young, purebred(?)Cocker girl ended up in a shelter is beyond me! Again, her Petfinder file says it better than I can, "Much like the cartoon character of the late 1960's, Penelope Pitstop is a damsel in distress. And just like the cartoon, this Penelope Pitstop needs Peter Perfect and his Turbo Terrific car to swoop in and save her. The difference is this is not a cartoon with a happy ending -- unless someone chooses to stop and save her.
Please save Penelope! She is just a sweet and petite baby."
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10186265

As a reminder (and as posted below), there are no fees for rescues to pull a dog. To approve a rescue, Jenise needs at least one vet reference with a telephone number, a brief statement about their spay/neuter policies, and a shelter reference with a contact person's name and telephone number. Once she has gone through the process of approving the rescue, they can pull any dog that's not already been spoken for. They can take them unvetted (and vet them once they arrive in rescue) or the vet down there gives very good discounts if they choose to have the vet work done before traveling.

Vetting prices are as follows:
Fee is $60 - that includes spay/neuter, DHLPP, and rabies (if old enough), and a deworming if a puppy

...

Pulling can be arranged and USUALLY transport to Lexington, KY. Rescues and adopters will need to coordinate their own transport beyond there.

Louisiana:Two 14-lb male orange cats in St. Martin Parish pound

Please save them!
Here are two of the many sweet pets at the St. Martinville pound, two extremely sweet cats to be put to sleep if not rescued/adopted. They were inside cats surrendered by their owner supposedly due to owner's allergies. Link to all info is http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/LA168.html

Tabby - Orange

Size: Large
Age: Adult
Sex: Male
ID: 385059

Notes:

We are two EXTREMELY sweet cats, both males, about 2 years old and 14 lbs. We have a very gentle temperament and we were inside cats. Our owners surrendered us because they were allergic to cats! You can adopt us together or separately.

They love me over there, at the pound, but... pets are euthanized every Tuesday and I may be next... If you think you and I could live together, PLEASE HURRY, I have only so much time left... Look at me and tell me I don't deserve to live! Please adopt me or foster me BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE! Call (337) 394-1220 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DO NOT E-MAIL, the volunteers who posted me on this site have no additional information, you would just be wasting precious time. Just call (337) 394-1220 NOW! It may be difficult to reach someone on the phone because the staff has so much to do, but leave a message and please keep trying.

Not sure yet? THIS PET CAN BE FOSTERED: you provide the love and care and the rest of the basics are provided for you. This gives you the opportunity to get to know the pet before adoption, or to keep it safe and healthy while it waits for a permanent home. Foster homes give many rescued animals another chance for life.

---------------------------------------
The St. Martin Parish Animal Control Facility's address is 1004 Industrial Park Road, St. Martinville LA 70582. Opening hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am - 5 pm.

Adoptions are on a first come first served basis (this is why it is a good idea to call first). The $65 adoption fee entitles you to a $50 spay/neuter certificate and a $10 rabies certificate.

Pasadena, California: Senior cat in pound since owner died

2-4-08 UPDATE: GOOD NEWS! Jennifer of Pasadena reports This Cat was adopted by a home!

This CAT - ID#A224946

Neutered male, gray and white Domestic Shorthair mix.

About 7 years old.

At the shelter since Jan 04, 2008.

This information is 1 hour old.

Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
With his lovely, big hazel eyes and soft plush coat, this seven-year-old domestic short hair cat certainly is handsome! Sadly, his owner passed away, leaving him, and his three companion cats (and 2 turtles!) behind. We don't know much about his past, but here at the shelter he is a little shy but if you rub the top of is head he'll close his eyes and relax, enjoying the attention.

National Pigeon Day

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: New York Bird Club <nybirdclub@yahoo.com>
Date: Jan 27, 2008 8:48 AM
Subject: National Pigeon Day

Dear Elected Government Representatives,

As you are aware pigeons are very much in the news, not only in New York City, but worldwide. What better time than to declare June 13th National Pigeon Day commemorating the death of Cher Ami (meaning Dear Friend in French).

His story can be found on the following link:

Pigeons heroically fought for our country during wars and were used by people as messengers, saving many human lives.

Cher Ami died of his multiple war wounds on June 13, 1919--less than a year after he had completed his service to the United States Army Signal Corps. Upon his death a taxidermist preserved the small pigeon for future generations, a bird with a story that became an inspiration to millions over the years.

On this special day, students in schools across the United States will commemorate this day by learning of the significant role pigeons played in the history of the World. This can appropriately tie in with New York State's Humane Education Law, enacted in 1947 that is not being complied with in our school system, which requires instruction in the humane care and treatment of animals. The law is not been enforced, and few educators know of its existence.

In September 2006, New York City Council Member Tony Avella introduced a resolution urging the New York City Department of Education to help schools comply with New York State's Humane Education Law by issuing a memo to all public schools in the city.

We respectfully request that June 13th be declared National Pigeon Day in honor of pigeons who are war heroes.

Griffin, Georgia: Spalding cats at pound

Please crosspost very urgent situation for approximately 8 pound cats
There are cats at Spalding --- they are at risk of being gassed.
The pets come in so quickly and have such a short timeframe. They may need to be out on Monday 1/28 at 4:30 like the dogs, due to the shelter getting painted etc.
Barbara Lowe at Winged Cat Rescue just found out there are 8 new cats in "the bay" - ones that were trapped and might just be scared or might be ferals. Please contact Barbara at blowe@optonline.net to donate, foster, rescue or adopt. It takes a bunch of dollars to rescue a cat just as it does a dog. Please see the pound kitties' PetNotes herebelow. Thank you!

Arlington, Texas:Young precious Red HeelerX named KIRBY on death row

Subject: URGENT: KIRBY hits 3 month mark at Arlington Animal Services-Please help!

...Kirby, our red heeler mix is about to hit the three month-mark this coming Monday. He has little time left. The shelter's building C dogs are "special," they earn their way into the building by having wonderful temperaments and being highly adoptable. But, sometimes, in spite of that, a dog is constantly overlooked in favor of another. This is Kirby's last chance...

Kirby was found as a stray on October 28, he is approximately one to two years-old. Kirby is all about turning strangers into life-long friends, he actually "smiles" when you stop by his kennel and he knows how to "dance!" This boy can do the twist and "shake his bootie" better than any other dog at the shelter. Kirby is extremely unique in appearance with one blue eye, one brown eye, and white fur speckled with flecks of red just like a red heeler! Kirby is really a baby in a big boy body; this guy has survived kennel cough at the shelter and now he is running out of time. Kirby is just a pleasure to spend time with, he thrives on human companionship. It would be a shame if all our efforts to save Kirby's life fail. He deserves a chance to be someone's "best friend." Kirby will put a twinkle in your eye and light up your life! Please consider opening your heart and your home to this sweet boy who has spent the past three months confined to a kennel.

South Bend IN: Animal Control GSD/Rottie Achilles, staff favorite in danger

Achilles

Hello,

This is Kayla Haddock. I am the adoption coordinator for South Bend Animal Care and Control. I know you have pulled dogs from us in the past, and I am hoping you may have space for an exceptional boy. His name is Achilles. He is an adult, 1 to 2 year old German Shepherd/ Rottie mix, with the personality of a teddy bear . He loves everyone, and his best friend here at the shelter is a 3 month old lab/pit mix puppy. He loves all other dogs, and will play and love on whoever will accept his affection. He is already neutered, and sadly has been stuck at the shelter way past his time. Attached are some photos of him, some with his little "sidekick" along with him. This pup leaves Sunday for another rescue. ...

Achilles has grown very dear to many of us, and time is of the essence in getting him out of here. I pray you can make a space for him. He is an amazing dog who deserves the chance at a happy life in his new forever home. Please let me know ASAP if you can do anything to help. You can email me at this addy, or at khaddock@southbendin.gov , or you may call me at work Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm, or at home 574-993-1625.

Thank you so much for your time in reading this, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Respectfully,

Kayla Haddock

Willis,Texas: Jake is rescued!!! American Pit Bull Terrier

Crossposting MESSAGE Jake is SAVED! To Jake's Angels.............

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: ZeeAngel@aol.com <mailto:ZeeAngel@aol.com>
Date: Jan 20, 2008 10:59 PM
Subject: Jake is SAVED! To Jake's Angels.............
To: mailto:ZeeAngel@aol.com

On Saturday, Jake left Town Lake Animal Control to head for Spindletop Refuge!!! He is now safe and sound. :)

Jake's eyes and snout had been taped shut. Then he was shot in the neck and left for dead. But the indomitable spirit of dogs kept him going. An Austin animal control officer found him stumbling around. According to animal control, when the officer removed the tape from Jake's eyes, Jake "rubbed his big, fat head on the officers trousers" as if to say "thank you." His tail was wagging despite the attempt on his life. There is no way to know how long he had been there or what other kind of abuse he has known. What is known, is that Jake will never be cruelly treated again!

Many thanks to Laura and everyone at TLAC who cared for Jake and wanted to give him a chance for a great life. Also, many thanks to Stacey, Victoria & Michael with Austin GSD rescue who took an interest in Jake and spearheaded saving him. AND very importantly, THANK you to everyone who has donated or pledged donations to help save Jake, and to everyone who forwarded emails, crossposted and got the word out about the unspeakable cruelty visited on this pup and his chance for a good life. Because of the combined efforts of everyone, Jake will never know abuse again and he will get a good home where he can be an inside dog who is loved and treated with dignity and respect that he deserves! Thank you Spindletop Refuge for giving this boy a new beginning!
Jake arrives at Spindletop Refuge (1/19/08). Victoria and Michael of Austin GSD Rescue were the kind transporters of Jake. The new location for Spindletop Refuge is located on seventy acres in Montgomery County, Texas.

As you can see, Jake's face is still raw in places from the tape, but he is healing nicely. The gunshot went through his neck (there are entry and exit wounds), but fortunately he is also healing from that. Jake will be checked out by Dr. Lucy Faulkner, Spindletop's veterinarian, to make sure he is okay and healing properly, although it appears he is on his way to recovering. TLAC was kind enough to give him all his vaccinations.

He will need a lot of tlc to build his confidence up with people. He likes girls but can be leary around some men. His initial rescuer was a man, so he certainly recognized his kindness. Jake will also be basic obedience trained and carefully assessed which will take some time. It is impossible to know what all this pup has been through, but what we do know is heinous enough. Don't you just love those silly ears!??

Isn't he a cutie? And as you can see, he certainly was a good boy with Victoria & Michael!
Again, THANK you to all of Jake's Angels for saving this sweet boy!!!

P.S. The authorities in Austin are trying to find out who did this to Jake.

Spindletop is a 501(c)3 organization and all contributions are tax-exempt. To donate, one can use PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/. Contact info is SPINDLETOPRESCUE@aol.com and mailing address: Spindletop Refuge, P.O. Box 1755, Willis, Texas 77378. Thank you!

> food, shelter, veterinary care, and YOU.

> Approximately 100 goats, chickens, turkeys, pigs,
> an emu, llama, and one pregnant horse ---along with
> over 185 dogs--- were abandoned at a farm without
> shelter, water, or food. Working with L.A. County
> Animal Regulation & Control, area dog rescue
> organizations and other sanctuaries, Animal Acres
> rescue staff and volunteers have been working to
> remove suffering animals from the property, and
> provide food and care for animals still left behind.
>
> Animal Acres rescuers on the scene found dead dogs
> in wheelbarrows, and the farmed animals did not have
> any food or water . One of the pigs could not stand
> because his hooves were severely overgrown. Most of
> the sheep and goats have upper respiratory ailments,
> pink eye, and mange. Two of the sheep are blind in
> one eye, and all of the sheep and goats have eye
> infections. The animals were forced to live in
> filthy puddles and dirt in 30 degree temperatures
> without any protection from wind or rain. The stench
> was horrific.
>
> The Animal Acres sanctuary is now providing
> emergency rescue care for 38 sheep and goats, 32
> chickens and turkeys, and is working to find

Subject: Serious...Urgent...Woof in DIRE NEED!!!

PLEASE FORWARD AS WOOF MAY ONLY HAVE 1 WEEK, 1 MONTH OR A POSSIBLY A FEW MONTHS TO LIVE. HIS PROGNOSIS IS NOT GOOD!! SEE HIS STORY BELOW.....

If you cannot help by giving Woof a place to stay, please try and
donate to his vet bill of $460. It may not seem like much but I am not able
to pay this in full and need help if anyone can donate a little. Vet info
can be provided.

Woof is in boarding and DESPERATELY needs a home to live out what
time he has left!! Woof has megaesophagus, a condition where there is
decreased or absent movement of the esophagus. With megaesophagus, passing food
all the way to the stomach becomes very difficult. The vet says surgery is not
a good option as it is very unsuccessful.

Woof is a 7-8 year old, male Cattle dog who is blind!! Woof's Dad
went to prison 2 months ago and he lost the only home he's ever known. He's
very confused and very depressed in a boarding kennel wondering when
he'll get a permanent home and unconditional love again. He doesn't know what's
going on or where he is. This is very hard on Woof and he is desperate for a
foster home to live out the remainder of his life. He may not have very long at
all! He does however get around really well for a blind boy. He is very
sweet and does fine with other dogs as long as they don't pick on him, which
is what some dogs have done in the past because of his disability. Please
contact us if you can help Woof!

Thank you,

Leigh
