Max was taken from his home because of Breed Specific Legislation, Please take a moment to read the owners words below...
Max is a wonderful, loving, affectionate dog. He deserves a good home. Please, please, I pray that
who ever adopts him will love him and take care of him
"Max's profile
He does not like vacuum cleaners
He does not like cats, agressive dogs, possum, and squirrels
He has only been fed dog food, purina kibbles and chunks
You can keep food in his bowl, he will eat in moderation
give heartworm (1) a month

Key words he understands:
Bad-when he is doing something you don't want him to do
Hurry up-when he goes outside to do his business No, lay down, go to your pillow, stay, heel, stop, sit

Hax has never been kept outside. He has never had an accidnet in our home (the longest he had to hold it was 15 hours-we had an emergency and was unable to get to him)

Take him out in the morning if you work and maybe once or twice after that (when you get home). He loves childeren buy you will have to watch him because he can knock down small kids. We never was able to break him from jumping up when he greets someone. He is not a barker, only at other animals.
Max is located at the Siouxland Humane Society in Sioux City, IA.

Max is a 4 year old, neutered pit bull. He was surrendered to the Humane Society because of city ordinances. This dog is such a sweetheart!!!! Max is housebroken and has always been an inside dog. He is leash trained and knows approximately 10 commands...very smart. He is very loving and affectionate. His previous owners were heartbroken to give him up.
He has been at the shelter since Dec.4th and is beginning to go downhill. He does not get up to greet the staff anymore...he is VERY depressed. The H.S. staff says wonderful things about this dog's personality. I believe this is the only reason he has not been euthanized...yet. However, with his emotional decline, euthanasia is imminent.
We need to find a rescue situation or home for this wonderful dog IMMEDIATELY!!! Please contact me for any additional information you may need!

attempting to care for him but he continues to live outdoors and gets
food and water only on occasion…….. Needs a second chance in a loving

Subject: URGENT: Dogs-Cats to die in St. Martinville, LA
Permission to cross post

Hi all,
Please don't forget the pets from the St. Martin Parish Animal Control,
in St. Martinville, Louisiana. These beautiful pets' lives are in danger.
If you can't see the list and pictures pasted in this message, please go to
http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=1&pet.Shelterid=LA168&preview=1

This is a high kill facility and these pets could be euthanized on Feb. 19.

Many pets get pulled thanks to all the people crossposting and to animal welfare groups getting them out of the pound. Thanks to all of you!

If your group pulls a dog (sorry it does not work for cats)
from the pound, please let me know and give me your
website address or some info on how to donate to you.

The reason is because in DogsInDanger.com
where the dogs are also listed,
I can enter additional info
o
nce a pet's status is changed to adopted/rescued. If I
mention your group, you may occasionally get a donation
towards that pet's care from relieved dog lovers.

Note that by the time you receive this e-mail, there are probably more
pets - cats and dogs - not in this list. It does not hurt to ask the staff what
other pets they have...
The facility is a new building located at 1004 Industrial Park Road inSt. Martinville, past Wal Mart, behind the old Fruit of the Loom plant.
Opening hours are Monday through Friday 8 am - 5 pm. Special arrangements can be made on request. The pulling fee for animal groups is $5 with proof of non-profit status (you can fax it at 337-394-1220.) If you don't have the proper paperwork ornon-profit status, you will be charged the normal adoption fee of $65, butthis entitles you to a $50 spay/neuter certificate and a $10 rabies certificate. Please note: The St. Martin Parish Animal Control (i.e. the pound) and the St. Martin Humane Society are TWO DIFFERENT ENTITIES.Volunteers from the St. Martin Humane Society list the pets for the pound onPetfinder but we have no other information. Please do not waste any time hitting the "Reply" button to contact me,I have no additional information and can't do anything anyway, contact the pound directly at 337-394-1220. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! These pets' lives are on the line...Also, please skip the hate mail, I don't need that, I do what I can and we welcome everybody's help! Please understand the staff is not in a position to organize transportation. -- Marie Bossard, St. Martin Humane Society, Louisiana. http://www.stmartinhumane.org/YOU WANT TO HELP? YOU REALLY DO? Here are five easy ways:Spay/neuter your pets * Become a member * Volunteer * Donate * Sponsor a petWe are all volunteers and we receive no government funding.
The animals in our care depend solely on fundraisers and generous donations from the public.

PLEASE CROSSPOST!!

I am sending out a note to all those that said they wanted to donate to Handsome the starved and mangy dog from the Corpus Christi Shelter:

I just got back from taking Handsome to my vet on my lunch hour. We don't know what is wrong - think it may be just kennel cough but he was having some mucus discharge from his nose, coughing and a little trouble breathing very early this morning. I had started him on 200mg amoxicillian 2X a day on Sunday, as well the antibiotic for his skin, but it hasn't helped. His immune system is just so very compromised right now the vet and I agreed I should bring him.

If you would still like to donate something - it would be so much appreciated. He is at my vet's, Dr. Alan Garett - Everhart Animal Hospital and his number is (361) 854-1439. You can just tell him its for Handsome. I don't know if they will keep him over tonight or what is wrong yet - have a Dr. appt myself this afternoon - but I will let you know what happens. Thank for you your kindness and your prayers. Blessing, Sherri

Douglas County was fortunate in we have had one rescue group come and taking many of the cats as well as a couple taking one or 2, but what has happened is they received 14 on Sat and next week they are to receive 18 cats due to an eviction which puts many cats still at risk as they will have to make room for them. There are many gorgeous healthy cats and kittens which just came in. No pics yet of kittens, but of some of the new cats are posted, but more to be posted. Please if you can even squeeze in a couple it will save some lives. Their hours are 10 to 5 Tues thru Sat and 2 to 5 on Sunday and close to public on Monday, but rescue can make arrangements to come. The make their EU list for Tuesday late on Mondays so no way to know who is in danger.

These two sweet dogs have been in their little cells at the Del Norte
dog pound for almost 60 days now. They are sitting on borrowed time
for the pound is filling up quickly and these two will be first on the
list to be PTS.

First one is in Kennel #11- Young adult male mixed breed. Not very
big approx 50 lbs full grown. This great dog unfortunately keeps
getting overlooked. He is docile, very well mannered and gentle. Just
a really easy going dog. Someone is really missing out on this one.
Needs to get out ASAP.

Second one is in Kennel #9-Male lab X puppy. Approx 3 months old. I
can't even get this little guy to lift his head up anymore. It's like
he's given up all hope. This is extremely sad to see.

If anyone might be able to help soon please contact 2theresq@gmail.com
or call the Del Norte dog pound at 707-464-7235.

Burbank, California: Claude the 7 yr old black lab STILL THERE!

Quick! Contact Burbank shelter burbankanimalshelter@ci.burbank.ca.us, or M o l l y S t r e t t e n who is President of the Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter
http://basv.org/

This is January 2008 message re Claude from M o l l y:

Hello-

My name Molly and I am a volunteer with the Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter. We currently have a black Labrador Retriever at our shelter. Claude has been at the shelter since October. I have attached some photos of Claude and below you will find additional information:
Claude has been examined by our veterinarian and appears to be in good health. Claude is current on all vaccines. Claude is 7 years old. Claude may prefer to be an only dog. He barks at other dogs passing his kennel. A more in depth assessment may be needed. Claude appears to like children. However, he is large for his breed and may inadvertently knock over a very small child.
In addition, Claude is friendly and loves to play. He has a lot of energy for his age but he is not rambunctious. Unlike some Labs, Claude does not chew or shred his dog bed or blankets. While Claude is not at risk for being euthanized, he is becoming a bit bored and depressed at our shelter.

As mentioned above, Claude has been at the shelter since October. Do you have any space in your foster home? Please contact me at 818- 406- 3218 or via email.

Thank you.

Sick Siamese, NEEDS your help! OR will die!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've attached a picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A few weeks ago, a skinny, flea ridden, and sad eyed siamese came into the Valley River Humane Society. He was a sad boy. The employees gave him a more "Cheerful" name, McBergie to make him more adoptable.

He was very sweet at first, a little shy, but sweet. Then he came down with terrible upper respitory. He was coughing, hacking and having a hard time breathing.
The employees treated him and he HATED the medicine. He became very aggressive and was acting extremely terrified. After a few days of the terrifying ordeal of being strapped down, and forcefully medicated, he coulnd't take it anymore. He because aggressive and tried to bite and scratch. So... they stopped giving him his medicine. Now he hides in the back of the cage, Terrified of what is going to happen to him.

WE all know what will happen to him! The shelter is full, he is sick and terrifed. What are his oddS??? He is a beautiful cat, who does have a great personality and just deserves the chance to SHOW it.

PLEASE!!! A resuce or home must be found by friday! This cat has been starved, forgotten, restrained, and now sits in a dark room, in the back of a cold cage, terrified of what will happen next, because he knows what is the next step in his life... death.

In order for the animals that survived the catastrophic flood in Lewis
County to survive the winter, donations of hay or money to purchase
hay are needed. While the Dairy Federation and The Farm Bureau have
provided hay for the dairy farmers and others who depend on their
animals for their livelihood, many people who purchased hay for their
animals lost all their hay and other belongings in the flood. These
families are struggling to remove the mud and debris from their
property and rebuild their homes. While these families don't depend on
their remaining animals for livelihood, they care for these animals
and in many cases went to extreme measures to save them from drowning.
These families had already purchased hay to feed their animals through
the winter. They lost all their hay in the flood and they don't have
the resources to purchase it again. These families have lost so much
that we are trying to help them with this one thing. We have
distributed hay to families in Lewis, Thurston and Grays Harbor
Counties. Each semi we bring in is costing about $7500.00 for about 30
tons and the cost is increasing every month. While we received
monetary donations and donations of hay in December, the help is
drying up. Fundraising to continue to provide hay have been
exhausting.
We would appreciate any help available, either hay or the money to
purchase hay. We have been distributing it as fast as it is coming in,
but we do have a barn to store it if we get ahead of the need at all.
All monetary donations will go to purchase feed to help these animals.
There are no administrative costs, salaries or overhead costs. If you
would like to make a credit card donation to help the animals, please
go to www.folcas.org or contact Patty Kaija at 360-508-0151 or
pattyk@folcas.org . Donations can be mailed to FOLCAS, PO Box 1421,
Chehalis, WA 98532. Donations can also be made at any Security State
Bank. United Way donations may also be directed to Friends of Lewis
County Animal Shelter.
Friends of Lewis County Animal Shelter is a 501(c)(3) non profit
organization and all donations are tax deductible. Receipts available
on request.

Each of the five remaining large dogs have a $25 sponsorship
associated with them. The money will be paid directly to each approved receiving
rescue; that way, shelter staff will not have to handle this additional
responsibility as things continue to wind down.

Please continue to contact Jenise, the shelter liaison, at
smithszoo62 at yahoo.com or smithszoo62 at hotmail.com , if you
need additional information about any of these remaining dear souls or if you can
offer assistance in ANY way. She will be closely monitoring all of her
messages throughout the weekend.

She is also working on finding additional boarding for any of these
seven, should it be needed beyond Monday. Please contact her if you'd like
to potentially contribute to such boarding fees. Anyone in the
Lexington, Stanford, or Danville, KY areas that could potentially help with the first leg of various transports that are being set up should also contact Jenise; right
now she's truly trying to head in four directions at once!

The fact that these precious pups are still alive today is a true
testament to the continued hard work and dedication from the Lincoln County
Animal Shelter staff and Jenise, their only volunteer.

Stuart, an already neutered, ~20-pound, ~2-3-year-old Pug/Beagle mix with a curly tail, is the cutie on the right in the photo below. His Petfinder file says it best, "He could truly be called 'The Ambassador of Friendliness.' Stuart loves everyone - dogs, humans...he doesn't care. He's just happy to be around you. The shelter staff are perplexed as to how a cute, little lovebug like Stuart ended up at the shelter. And his little underbite adds to his character and charm. But Stuart's story isn't all smiles and sunshine. It is a heartbreaking tragedy, that a sweet, little, 'never-met-a-stranger' guy is going to have this be his end."

How in the world Penelope Pitstop, a petite (~15 pounds), young, purebred(?)Cocker girl ended up in a shelter is beyond me! Again, her Petfinder file says it better than I can, "Much like the cartoon character of the late 1960's, Penelope Pitstop is a damsel in distress. And just like the cartoon, this Penelope Pitstop needs Peter Perfect and his Turbo Terrific car to swoop in and save her. The difference is this is not a cartoon with a happy ending -- unless someone chooses to stop and save her.
Please save Penelope! She is just a sweet and petite baby."

As a reminder (and as posted below), there are no fees for rescues to pull a dog. To approve a rescue, Jenise needs at least one vet reference with a telephone number, a brief statement about their spay/neuter policies, and a shelter reference with a contact person's name and telephone number. Once she has gone through the process of approving the rescue, they can pull any dog that's not already been spoken for. They can take them unvetted (and vet them once they arrive in rescue) or the vet down there gives very good discounts if they choose to have the vet work done before traveling.

Vetting prices are as follows:
Fee is $60 - that includes spay/neuter, DHLPP, and rabies (if old enough), and a deworming if a puppy

...

Pulling can be arranged and USUALLY transport to Lexington, KY. Rescues and adopters will need to coordinate their own transport beyond there.
