Subject: URGENT: 11 days left to live, Boots, our boxer mix at AAS, ID# 4157002, C8

It's hard not to become attached to some of the dogs I meet, but Boots and I have "history" going all the way back to September 12, 2007 when she was originally found as a stray as a young adult. Art, (most of you know Art, our kennel manager that retired in December) fell in love with this dog, too. I have sent an email to him as well and he's also trying to find safe haven for Boots, but she is running out-of-time! Boots was first adopted in November 1 , 2007, after spending more than a month at the shelter, still the sweet dog she was when originally found. Boots returned on November 14 for being "too playful." Once again, Boots was adopted on December 5, 2007 and returned on January 24, 2008! She was adopted again almost immediately and BACK AGAIN on January 31. She been at the shelter since then. The last time she was returned it was for "behavior issues." No one has taken the time to teach Boots any manners, but Art and Susan and I are not all crazy. We each see something in Boots that has made her special to us. Boots is UTD on all vaccinations and spayed, but lacks training. Her adopters wanted a fully-vetted dog, but also expected her to be perfect. I'm sure the rescues can understand this; Boots, was probably "chosen" because she was already spayed, cheaper than some of the other dogs because she was already spayed and possibly because of being part boxer! I truly feel in my heart that the times Boots was adopted, she went to people who didn't really care about her personally! Susan has carried on where Art left off, trying to keep her out-of-harm's way. Boots has NEVER been sick, but has spent SO MUCH of her young life in a shelter, kenneled. Boots needs out now, the constant kenneling has finally affected her and I don't blame her! It's AMAZING that she has been able to stay enthusiastic and in good spirits as long as she has. If any dog deserves a chance at really experiencing what it's like to feel loved and wanted, it's Boots. She is less than two years-old and has NEVER had a real family for longer than a few weeks. PLEASE, I am begging! Can SOMEONE find room for Boots to save this girl's life? The many months of shelter life that she has suffered through will be for naught, if she ends up living her final days there. Boots has 11 days left, if no one comes forward by then, she will be euthanized. It's just not fair to keep her confined any longer in the hope that the right "adopter" will come along. PLEASE HELP BOOTS! I have attached many recent pictures of Boots.

LosAngeles: 2 fab cats Sarah & Jillian from same home need new forever guardian

Crossposting SARAH - ID#A935847 & JILLIAN - ID#A935845
Please save these two or forward their info ASAP to someone who may be able to. They are at the South Los Angeles Shelter ANNEX where no human sees them unless they are staff or make special request to be taken to see them!
Staff worker wrote 4/17:

I reintroduced these two sisters last night. As soon as they saw each other they began chirping! So I gingerly placed Sarah in Jillian's cage & closed the door. Jillian immediately put Sarah in a head lock and furiously groomed her. Then they played Patty Cake, followed by more intense grooming & chirping.

As soon as they are off their meds I can move them to a larger cage in a "healthy" room! Unless they are rescued first!

A935845 & A935847, Jillian & Sarah
Jillian (A935845) is about 1 yr old, grey tabby, not spayed.
Sarah (A935847) is about 2 yrs old, grey tabby, spayed
These girls are "sisters" in that they came from the same owner. Unfortunately the larger cages have moms & litters in them so these girls are separated.

*URGENT* LULABELL IN NEED OF RESCUE OR ADOPTION:

Lulabell is a Shelter Puppy Dog:
adoption date is 3-02-08
and can be put to sleep any time after the adoption date. As of this Month, Lulabell is still at the shelter in need of rescue.
This pretty young lady is around 1 year old, is Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg) , walks on a leash, sits when asked, she appears to be a very sweet & loving girl, playful, full of love & fun, very well mannered, house trained and is a special dog that is in need of a family to love. Lulabell's time is up and she's more then ready for adoption

Lulabell's owner can't keep Lulabell any longer because Lula likes to chase cats & livestock, so turned her over to the animal shelter.. The owner said that Lulabell enjoyed rides in the car, is house trained, got along with other dogs & children while in their care. NO CATS, OR LIVESTOCK

Dawn gave a little test by looking in Lilabell's mouth, pulling on her ears and tail, holding her paw and giving her a little kiss and hug. Lulabell appeared to past the test with no problems. She's so sad at the shelter and I think is missing her family... Like all of our shelter dogs, we suggest a well fenced yard for Lulabell to play and be safe in. We feel she may make an outstanding active fun loving family member and comapion. If you wish, Lulabell can be tested around Dogs & Cats here at the shelter.

Ohio Puppy Mill Bills (S.B. 173 and H.B. 223). Be sure to visit the "Legislation" page on http://www.banohiodogauctions.com/ for the latest update regarding these proposed bills.

The Bark Heard Around the World. For many years, Puppymillrescue Inc. has taken in the abused, malnourished, old, young and sickly from the mills of Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania and many other states. Now they find they no longer have to leave their homes in upstate NY to transport dogs in need from the mills - they're right in their own backyard and spreading rapidly.

To educate citizens about the horrific abuse taking place in those "beautiful white barns", Puppymill Rescue Inc. invites animal advocates from across the country to participate in the "The Bark Heard Around the World" to be held at the Yates County Fairgrounds in Penn Yan, NY from 10AM - 4PM on Sat., May 17th, 2008. To learn more about this event, please visit http://www.puppymillrescue.com/bark.htm.

Scrubbing Dogs to Save Lives. Continuing the momentum following last Friday's Oprah segment on puppy mills, PetPals at Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) will be holding a dog wash fundraiser on Sunday, April 13 from 11-2 PM EST at Bark Til Dark Dog Park (Delaware, OH) to help raise awareness of the relationship between OH dog auctions, puppy mills and homeless dogs awaiting adoption in our state's local shelters and pounds. All proceeds from their dog wash, "Pet Lover's Gift Basket" raffle, t-shirt (just $10!) and homemade bake sales will be donated to Companion Animal Protection Society - http://www.caps-web.org/ and Humane Society of Delaware County - http://www.delawarecohumanesoc.org/.

As an additional show of support, Columbus Top Dogs will be matching dollar-for-dollar (up to a maximum total of $500) for each organization. Area shelters and rescue groups will also be at the dog park showcasing companions available for adoption. To learn more about this event, please visit the "Events" page at http://www.barktildarkdogpark.com/ or contact Event Chair Pooja Dutt at pet_pals@owu.edu.
