Bear belongs to a woman with .... illness. Bear means everything to her (he actually is her service dog) but she cannot afford to get Bear the surgery he needs for his eyes (she is living on a very limited income). The vet indicated that Bear would have perfect vision if not for the "cherries." As you can see Bear also has a genetic skin condition that has been treated with cortisone.
Stacie has made arrangements for a vet to discount the costs of the surgery to $350.00 which includes the blood work costs! She also arranged for donations to go directly to the vet:

Help us save Wyatt! Wyatt is fighting for his life.
Your donation will help save him.

Wyatt was rescued by Coastal German Shepherd Rescue from a very high kill animal shelter on his very last day. When we rescued him we knew that his vision was impaired, and vowed to get him the treatment that he needed. Apparently no one cared enough about Wyatt previously to get him seen by a vet. After being in our care for a couple of days and receiving treatment for his eyes, Wyatt took a turn for the worse and became very lethargic, didn't want to eat and just all around felt lousy. Our vets have confirmed what we feared, Wyatt has pneumonia. His right lung is practically filled and his breathing capacity is limited. Wyatt is receiving the very best care---however that care is very costly. He is currently in an oxygen tent, being nebulized and on a very tough antibiotic. He is fighting for his life and we are trying vigilantly to raise the funds needed to continue his care.
We commit to the medical needs of every dog that comes through our rescue's doors. We never turn our back on a dog with medical needs. However, we need your help to refill our accounts and to be able to tell our vet's that we can continue with Wyatt's costly care. Three days of intensive care could easily cost us $3K, so as you can see it is vital that we reach out to you to help Wyatt.
Any donation will go straight to Wyatt's care. Please consider helping Wyatt today.

Visit our Firstgiving page or click on the sponsor me button on my signature line. Your donations are secure and tax deductible.

Thank you in advance!

5/5/08 UPDATE: Please donate 2 sharpei

Hi Everyone-I would like to thank everyone who has donated (and posted) to help rescue these three, and of course Denetta and Patti, who couldn't take no for an answer and braved the shelter for the first time to get these babies out. Way to go!!! We have a way to go on Zeus especially, but things are looking up for this whole family. We are thrilled to report that Atlas has officially been adopted through Shar Pei Rescue in Redding (Anna Payne)! His new mom is a repeat rescue dog adopter and has also adopted a sister for him (Mika). You can view her happy ending photo on their website. Atlas' pic will be on there soon too, and he will be living the sunny So Cal life in OC. His new mom is very dedicated and all his current and future medical needs are being taken care of at no expense to Pei People. Check out Atlas' new family members and happy ending at http://www.californiasharpeirescue.com/Flower has just been to the vet and is actually in good health and younger than we had hoped. It also appears that she is not Atlas' mom, the vet said she has probably not had pups and is only about 2 1/2. I met her the other day and she is a cutie...looks like a little bear. She is a doll, quite unique and also good with other dogs. Zeus is going to be at my place for the time being, as he needs medication several times a day for his skin and we need to monitor his urine for blood. (This means that another dog will be boarding in his place, as I only have room for one at the moment, but he needs the care and attention right now.) He is a joy, very sweet and loving, and we got to see him play today, which was amazing. He really likes kids and rode very well in the car. He is a joyful boy, truly grateful to be alive. We hope we get some improvement on his mange and urine issues soon, it could be a long road but we are hopeful he will continue to improve and not need surgery other than his neutering.Sue and I are very grateful for all the concern people have shown for these three special dogs, but I also I want to stress that these three, although very special to all of us, are just like every other dog that waits in a shelter for a home. They are just the tip of the iceberg. For every one that we save, there are many that we can't save because of lack of foster homes or funds. (All the money that comes in to rescues like ours goes directly to help the dogs). The best thing people can do, as many of you have done, is to donate time or funds to reputable rescues to enable the ongoing care of rescued dogs, and also to consider fostering one dog at a time for a rescue if your space and lifestyle allow it. If we had more fosters, we could save more lives. Thanks again to everyone who has helped and for continuing to care about these guys, and all the others who still need help. If you love shar pei, want to see updates on our dogs, or are interested in fostering or adopting a dog, check out our site at http://www.peipeople.com
Thanks
Jody/
Please meet Flower (6 year old female, cream brush coat) - she is gorgeous!

Please meet Zeus (3 year old male, fawn horse coat). Great personality...very cuddly.
 -

And finally Atlas (about 8 months old, male, fawn horse coat). [post- attack photo-his ears are now all punctured] ( 5/5/08 UPDATE - ATLAS IS ADOPTED! )
 -

Please let anyone you might know that is looking for a pei that these peis are available!
You can also go to http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5339550 and buy donated Jewelry (in time for Mother's Day) and all proceeds also go to the rescue!

To:
Hi again,

This is the second URGENT appeal for this beautiful young Pit Bull. He is NOT listed in Petfinder, or any online adoption database as to not attract unwanted attention and he is not available for adoption directly to the public. He can only be taken by an animal welfare group.

LISTED BEFORE... Time is short...
Very, very sweet male Pit Bull, 8 months old, not listed on Petfinder.

The pound where he is is a high kill facility and the fact he was not euthanized because of his breed is a testament to his very sweet disposition. He is about 7 months old, 65 lbs and VERY sweet. Pets are given about 2 weeks and he has been there about one month now.

TIME IS RUNNING SHORT!!!!!
.

If you think you can help this beautiful dog, please call the St. Martin Parish Animal Control facility (337-394-1220), leave a message with your phone # and keep calling. Your best chance of catching a human being is early in the morning, at lunch time and after 3 pm. Please DO NOT PROCRASTINATE as this pet's life is on the line!

The facility is a new building located at 1004 Industrial Park Road in
St. Martinville, past Wal Mart, behind the old Fruit of the Loom plant.
Opening hours are Tuesday through Friday 9 am - 6 pm. Saturday 9 am - 2 pm.
Closed on Sunday and Monday.
Special arrangements can be made on request.

The pulling fee for animal groups is $5 with proof of non-profit status
(you can fax it at 337-394-1220.) If you don't have the proper paperwork or
non-profit status, you will be charged the normal adoption fee of $65, but
this entitles you to a $50 spay/neuter certificate and a $10 rabies
certificate.

Do not waste any time
hitting the "Reply" button to ask me more questions
or to make arrangements with me, I have no additional information

and I do not work for the pound, I am only a volunteer.

Contact the pound directly
at 337-394-1220. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!

Please understand the staff is not in a position to organize transportation.

Please keep me updated and thank you for trying to save a life.

Place your order by 7AM Eastern Monday, May 5th and be confident that your gift will arrive in time for the special day with FREE shipping! You can also get your adoption there on time with Express shipping if you order by 7AM Eastern Tuesday, May 6th.

As Mother's Day approaches, penguin moms and families are facing a meltdown. You can help support our work to save these beloved birds -- and their families -- by adopting a penguin today.

Penguins may sing and dance in the movies, but -- in the real world -- times are tough. Rising temperatures are destroying vital penguin habitat and depriving them of crucial food sources, such as the shrimp-like krill. Many penguins can't find enough food to feed their chicks.

Already, penguin populations have decreased by nearly 80 percent in some areas.

Adopt a penguin, a penguin family, or a Penguin Mom & Chick for your favorite "Moms" this Mother's Day. It's a great gift and you'll be helping to save these precious creatures at the same time!

With your Penguin Mom & Chick gift adoption, those special 'moms' in your life will receive a soft and cuddly 11" Tall, Penguin Mom & Chick Plushes, a framed personalized Certificate of Adoption and penguin photo, a penguin fact sheet, chock full of information about these feathered friends, and a Kids Wildlife Activity Book.

More importantly, your penguin gift adoption for Mom will help support our efforts to address global warming, pass legislation to help animals adapt to a changing climate, and our education and mobilization efforts to protect these wonderful animals.

Adopt a penguin or another imperiled animal by 7AM eastern on May 5th for FREE shipping in time for Mother's Day.

Dragon is a one year old male Lhasa Apso mix A0885942 that was turned in to be euthanized for Parvo. They did not have the money to treat him. We tested him and he is positive. We wanted to give him a chance to see if anyone can help him, but unfortunately we can only hold him for a few hours as we cannot risk exposure to the other dogs at our facility. If you can help Dragon, please come or call NOW.

Hi all,

New opening hours - read below
Please don't forget the pets from the St. Martin Parish Animal Control,
in St. Martinville, Louisiana tel.: 337-394-1220. These beautiful pets' lives are in danger.
If you can't see the list and pictures pasted in this message, please go to
http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=1&pet.Shelterid=LA168&preview=1

This is a high kill facility all the pets listed below have all been there several weeks already, they could be euthanized as soon as April 29.

For the local people:
I am attaching a flier showing these pets and the basic information.
You can post in on your car, at your work place, school, store...
any extra coverage these pets get may save them.

Many pets get pulled thanks to all the people crossposting and to animal welfare groups
getting them out of the pound. Thanks to all of you!

If your group pulls a pet (dogs and cats) from
the pound, please let me know and give me
your website address or some info on how to
donate to you.

The reason is because when once a pet's status is
changed to adopted/rescued, I will mention your group,
and you may occasionally get a donation
towards that pet's care from relieved pet lovers.

Note that by the time you receive this e-mail, there are probably more
pets - cats and dogs - not in this list. It does not hurt to ask the staff what
other pets they have...

Please save wonderful Chow/Collie girl if you can or crosspost to a rescuer who may be able to.
Thank you,
Liz
