Dear Birmingham Boston Terrier Supporters

Birmingham Boston Terrier Rescue (BhamBTR) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the welfare of the Boston Terrier dog breed. BhamBTR takes any Boston Terrier regardless of age, temperament, and/or medical condition, and welcomes the re-homing of these dogs. Boston Terrier mixes are also an important part of our rescue. All Boston Terrier and Boston-Terrier mixes are spayed/neutered before placement, vaccinated, and all known medical conditions are addressed and treated as appropriate. Boston Terriers are placed in the loving homes of volunteers where they are assessed for personality, and then they are carefully matched to a home that will provide only the very best.

Please take a few minutes to look at the following pictures and bios of some really great Boston Terriers and Boston Terrier Mixes presently available for adoption and foster.

Is philanthropy or volunteerism on your list of New Year's resolutions? If so, ring in 2009 by helping Birmingham Boston Terrier Rescue. Many in our area diligently strive year-round to save and rehome at-risk or abandoned Boston Terriers. Each volunteer's needs vary, including opportunities that range from one time to ongoing. Many Boston Terriers surrendered to a shelter have zero to a few days before euthanasia. BhamBTR can rescue as many Boston Terriers as it has foster homes. If you volunteer your home and family for this temporary duty, BhamBTR will cover all veterinary expenses. Plus, foster families are under no time obligation. Volunteer for a week or a year. Your selection can range from a pregnant mama dog or puppies to a senior Boston Terrier with special needs. These Boston Terriers just require a happy place to call Temporary Home until their Forever Home can be found.

Transportation
Transporting a dog(s) entails picking up a dog(s) from a driver in one town and then driving anywhere from 50 to a 100 miles to another town (depending on what the indicates). You will then meet another driver who will then in turn do the same. Once you have transferred the dog(s) to the other driver, you are required to call the transport coordinator and check in as all transports are monitored. Once the dog(s) reaches its destination, an email will be sent to all involved to thank them and let them know that the dog(s) is safe and sound

Home Visits

There is nothing virtual about this process. Our Home Visit teams do exactly that: they physically visit the home of the individual or family before the adoption process is completed. This ensures that the home is a safe, stable, and loving environment, and that their new pet will be accepted as a permanent family member. BhamBTR provides each Home Visit team with a training session and a Home Visit checklist in preparation for this critical volunteer task.

Here is some information about our wonderful organization.

BhamBTR leaves no stone unturned in assuring the best possible future for the adopting family and, most importantly, for the Boston Terrier being placed. A lengthy screening and education process is done before an application is approved. An adoption contract is completed, and post-placement follow-up is done. An adoption fee is charged to cover the tremendous veterinary expenses incurred by BhamBTR.

All members of BhamBTR are volunteers who are Boston Terrier owners themselves and are deeply dedicated to the welfare and safety of the breed. Every member of our team undergoes the same screening process that is applied to all potential adopters. Over the course of the past year, our volunteers have driven hundreds of miles across the Southeast to rescue Boston Terriers and Boston-Terrier mixes in need. BhamBTR volunteers have participated in screening potential adopters and have educated each other in the best ways to care for and train a Boston Terrier. BhamBTR volunteers have worked dog fairs and fund raisers to generate donations to help with expenses. Most importantly, though, is that each member has opened his/her home and heart to assist BhamBTR in caring for rescued Boston Terriers while they are in foster care.

All medical-care decisions are made by one or more of BhamBTR's four board members: Donna Farmer, President; Amy Sanford, Vice President; Meredith Warren, Secretary; and Austin Cooper, Treasurer and Weball of whom have worked with various other rescue organizations prior to the establishment of BhamBTR. We have several excellent veterinarians across Alabama from which we receive counseling and guidance. In addition, we work closely with sister rescues, Southern Cross Boston Terrier Rescue and Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee, among others. To date, we have individually rescued and re-homed well over 200 Boston Terriers and Boston-Terrier mixes. Our rescue efforts have been exponentially successful; and in 2008, we will likely double the number of dogs rescued just during the previous year.

We sincerely hope that you will consider becoming a member of our team.

Thank you for your generosity! We appreciate your help and so do these dogs!

Respectfully,

Donna Farmer
