Subject: Request your help
I live in Killeen, TX and our local animal shelter suffered a devastating loss this weekend. A fire broke out in the kitchen area of the shelter and over 100 animals lost their lives early sunday morning. I am sending out a cry for help. They are in dire need of donations, volunteer services, and repair services. Here's their story:
A fire ripped through the Second Chance Animal Shelter of Killeen, TX (there are more than one under this name in the USA) in the early hours of November 1st 2009. As a result, over 100 animals lost their life, and many more required fostering while repairs are conducted. The outpouring of support from the community has been AMAZING. I swear I have never seen the parking lot for the shelter that full. So many people there to help, so many folks making donations. Every animal they wished to foster, was fostered. So, lets keep this going so that their needs for donations and volunteers can be filled as well. Please pass along to all your friends, share on your friends Facebook pages, Myspace Bullitens....whatever we have to do to keep this going and help the animals.

The Shelter is unable to adopt any animals out at this moment. They are closed until further notice. Offer to foster and give whatever support you can. Thank you all who have spread the word. If you visit the shelter, please part at the back of the property so that service trucks can get to the front of the building. Usually there is someone there to direct traffic, however, sometimes there may not be. So, please try to park so that the service vehicles can get through to the front of the building. Again, thank you all for your support.
There is no electricity and no phone service at the Second Chance Facility at this time. However, they have updated their web page. Current count of animals lost in the fire - 99 Cats and 15 Dogs. The damage is mainly in the kitchen area however, that entire wing has suffered damage and requires repair.
They are in dire need of many items required to rebuild/repair: paint, primer, paint rollers, any paint supplies. Also, they require the services of any able bodied person willing to donate their time to help with the rebuilding project.
All animals that required fostering have been fostered, however, they will take your name and information down should a foster home not work out for them.
Continue to pass this along to your friends as they will require our help for a while until this is able to be rebuilt.

This link http://www.centexhumanesociety.com/html/wish_list.shtml will take you to their standard wish list of items they always need if you need ideas of things to donate.
This link http://www.centexhumanesociety.com/ will take you to their homepage and PayPal button if you'd like to make a monetary contribution.
Last but not least, if you would like to donate time, skills or anything else and need to speak with an official representative of the organization, contact lizrainey@hot.rr.com to coordinate.
