We are just looking for a rescue or individual who will take him to make sure that he has a chance at life. He will need a neurologist to see him and probably do surgery to remove the pellet for him to be cured but that is down the road. For now we just need to see him go somewhere that he will be safe.

Thanks,
Debbie

Thanks, Liz!Here are some pics I just got of Rex and what his foster mom/saviour has said about him!

Rex is a survivor! He is a very handsome and robust lab mix with beautiful brown eyes. He is a little shy and fearful when he first meets you, but warms up to you when he sees that he can trust you.

Rex was rescued from a ditch on December 8, 2009 where he had drug his front legs and head out of the cold water. His hind legs were still lying in the water because he could not move. It appeared that Rex had been hit by a car. However, after getting him to the vet, we were told that his injuries had been caused by a pellet gun. A pellet had lodged in Rex’s spine.

It has been a week since his injury, and Rex is improving every day! He is now able to move about slowly on his own, though his right hind leg continues to be disabled. He is using the bathroom without help, and works especially hard for treats!

With all that he has been through, Rex has such a mild temperament. I have not seen him around small children, but everyone at the veterinarian’s office have fallen in love with Rex! Even the people at the grooming shop next door come over to see him throughout the day to bring him treats!!!

Rex truly is a survivor! He fought to survive after a gunshot wound, cold, water, and pain. Now, it is time for Rex to be given a chance at a better life. I believe he will be a great inspiration to someone who matches with him, and will make a terrific companion and pet.

Subject: Urgent help needed for medium size shep mix shot with high powered pellet gun.

I got a call from Cabot Animal Control today asking for help to find someone who could take a very sweet medium sized male dog - vet tech says he looks mostly shep mix but is only medium sized. He has been at the vet for a week and the good samaritan who saved him and took him to the vet cannot keep him but has paid for his vet care. He has a pellet lodged near his spine which temporarily paralyzed his hind legs. He is now able to get up and move on his right hind leg but drags the left one behind him. He is probably going to need surgery which the vet in Lonoke was not equipped to do.
If a place cannot be found for him to go he will have to go to the shelter and that will mean quick euth for him as they are full to overflowing :((.

The vet is Dr. Edwards in Lonoke and his phone number is 501-676-6903 if anyone at all can help. Please cross post this to all of your contacts and hopefully we can find a place for this boy to go. I wish we could take him but as I'm sure all of you are we are just full past capacity.
