Shasta County, California: 18 Dogs in Need of Rescue

Shasta County is in northern California.

From: "SNIPPP" <snippp@frontiernet.net>

Date: August 31, 2009

Hi SNIPPP associates and Rescue Friends,
SNIPPP (located in northeastern Shasta County, northern California) received a call from a woman whose husband passed away earlier this month. He left behind 20 dogs ranging in size from 35 to 50 pounds, ages 1 to 9 years old. They are German Shepherd Dogs and Australian Cattle Dogs and combos of the two. Her income is extremely limited and she can no longer afford to feed all these dogs on her own and she knows they'd be so much better off in new homes. She asked us to find homes for 18 of the dogs, if possible. Although currently none of them are spayed, neutered, vaccinated, or tested for heartworm, SNIPPP will get that done over the next 2 weeks. They are all exclusively outside dogs, and are chained up all the time. Living at the end of a dirt road on a desolate piece of property, the dogs have rarely seen any humans besides members of her family. Despite the horrible circumstances, many of the dogs seem sweet and mild-mannered, though very under-socialized.

So, we are desperately looking for foster and adoptive homes for these poor dogs!

Can you help? Call Suzanne at 530 335-2192 or email skane@gotsky.com

Please share far and wide, cross post freely!

Here are photos of the dogs. If you have questions about details of a particular dog, we do have more photos and some (but limited) information.

.....
Thank you for any help you can offer to get these dogs to nicer, safe, loving places!!

Hi All, I did a TNR at Sunset/Fountain a couple months ago. The people responsible for the cats have recently been evicted and not only left the outside friendly fixed cats but 2 litters that were indoors that I did not know about. I have been contacted by neighbors and am pleading for someone at the building to ISO the babies they claim are quite small and running around outside. The plan is to take them to HW in the next 2-3 weeks. If no one steps up to the ISO and socializing there, can anyone hold them until they go to HW? With the promise if they are rejected they will be returned to Sunset (you will not have to take them back). I am waiting to hear how many 3-5 perhaps and how old (4-6wks?). Please contact me if you able to assist.

Many thanks

Darla

Any detail you can give me that will help find the right home would be wonderful We got Bo when he was 8 months old. If I had not have took him he was going to be killed. We've had him for 6 years, He has been around teenagers, but he's never been rough housed, kicked at, hit at, or even yelled out. We talk to our animals and love them. Bo is protective of us but has never shown any signs of ever hurting anyone. He like for you to roll a ball and to be played with. Bo's very sweet natured. We've never had any problems with him. He's quite, so I know if I hear him Bark I better get up and at least see whats around. He's always been in a chain link fence ( Big back yard ) He doesn't like to be chained and as we all know that only makes Chows mean, so we don't do that. We have had other dogs to get in our fence and he never tried to fight with them, but other than that he's the only dog in our back yard. He doesn't like to be around when you are watering plants. I think before I got him someone must have been mean to him with a water hose. I don't know that I just get that from the way he walk away from me when I'm watering my plants. Cats I say he doesn't like but that's because he barks at them like crazy, I've never seen any signs that he will kill one. I'm not up to date on his shots because I can't afford it, usually he gets his hair cut but, I haven't been able to afford that this summer either. I 'm not getting rid of him for any reason other than : My husband walked out on us in January 09, I'm divorced now and I struggle with bills and sickness on a daily bases. I'm trying to find him a good home a home he deserves, it's not his fault I can't take care of him like I was and it's not fair to him, and I don't want him to be just thrown aside or abused in anyway. I love him and he has been the perfect pet for me and my family. I hope you can help find him a Good Loving family that will and can take care of him. I hope they understand his breed like I do. My Dad raised Chows for many years and when Chows are understood, and treated well and respect and took care of they can be your best friend for life. They are not mean Dogs. They are and can be Very Loving Dogs.
I hope this information helps. If you need to know anything else just e-mail me...I check my e-mails every day and I do reply. Thank you so much, I'm glad to see there is people out there somewhere that has a heart and does care for animals. Thank You

Good morning,

Pasadena Humane Society is the only licensed wildlife center in the 30 miles radius of the wildfire and is overwhelmed with animals from the fires, including 70 dogs alone taken in last night. PHS was overcrowded already and have many, many chihuhuas in imminent danger.

If you can foster for 1 to 3 weeks 1 or 2 chihuahuas, I can pull them today and get them to you. These chihuahuas can go on our upcoming Pup My Ride transports on Sept. 7 and 21st. Please let me know asap. If anyone wants to help me today, please call 562-760-7295.

I have spent quite a bit of time at the quarantine facility and was amazed at how wonderful it is! Please take a second to check out the site and see if you could take one or two of these furkids. There are alot of cats and as we know, there is a cat overpopulation everywhere, but if any of you who can, just take one kitty, it would make a huge difference!! Also, there are some really great dogs that we are placing at this time. Transport arrangements will be made accordingly. Thanks so much for taking a minute to look.

WARNING – Dog Fighters Posing as Rescue, Older Ladies Involved

Friday, August 28th, 2009 By Admin - Deanna

I don't generally post DNA or such but I received this today and know that a lot of people involved in rescue and transport and people who have friends and associates involved in this read FTLTD and this was too important not to pass on. Although this warning is aimed specifically at certain areas, anyone and everyone can benefit by following it. Dogfighters are everywhere and will resort to the most underhanded methods to get their hands on dogs, for either bait or fighting!

Please, share this with anyone you know who may be involved in rescue or know some one involved in rescue. Don't let these scum of the earth get hold of anymore innocent helpless animals to use, abuse, torture and kill!!

Rescues/Shelter – WARNING – Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Southern States.

In Wisconsin everyone should START with checking backgrounds on the free online Wisconsin Circuit Court System web site (takes like 20 seconds per person): http:/ /wcca. wicourts. gov/index. xsl

From – Midwest Area Pit Stop – MAPS

IMPORTANT – Kankakee , IL dog fighting bust around the 1st week in August. This stopped only a few and slowed down the competition.

Many of the communities in and around the Kankakee area are out looking for dogs. This came from a meeting on the dog fighting in the Chicago area and this information was given to me by very reliable sources because. My sources tell me that women and older women are the people who are applying to adopt and rescue dogs from Pounds and Rescues to replace the dogs that were taken from them and to sell them to anyone who have the buck. There are many of them out there making money off of selling these dogs which are then abused, tortured and killed. They are very experienced at telling you want you want to hear, just to get the dogs willing even to pay you for the dogs.

This message is for all the Rescues who have bully breed dogs. Please be careful of the people you adopt these dogs to. Check out their references, especially their Vet references that they took any dog they had to, find out what happened to the dog. Be sure of the neighborhood they are living in. We want to find homes for all the dogs but, we don't want them to go into a bad saturation where they could be used for fighting, or even as a bait dog.

Please, please check out where you are placing your dogs. With the economy in the dumps, there is big money in dog fighting and selling these dogs. These people are not apposed to putting information down on their applications that you want to hear because they are experienced on filling out these applications.

You want to make sure your rescue dogs are not the ones found dead or picked up by animal control on another bust. This can and would hurt your Rescue and your rescue efforts. Don't put them into another place where they can be abused, tortured and killed.

I know this isn't something the folks in rescue work want to hear. But, you cannot take people at face value when it comes to the life of one of our dogs. You do need home checks unannounced and any other means you can to ensure the safety of the dogs. Check out and ask for more personal references. I have even checked with the Police Dept in an area if I am not familiar with and have refused to let any of mine go on the advice of the Police Dept and type of crime in the area.

Don't mean to harp on how careful we have to be. It is just upsetting when I see the pictures of the dead dogs and how they died. I hate looking at the pictures, but have to see if maybe one of mine was in the group. And know how the people who do this are, they are only sorry because they got caught.

I found Mr. B in March, 2009 running down a busy street. He was dirty and his hair was unkempt and full of burs. Some kids were kicking at him and he readily sat by my open car door and came home with me. I reported to the local shelter with no response.
Mr. B is a Lhasa Apso, probably a mix, and is an off-white, sort of cream color neutered male. He weighs about 12 pounds and eats Iams dry food. He is about 2 years old and his teeth are in excellent condition. He is current on his immunizations and the vet noted no health concerns.
Mr. B has lived with me and my Chihuahua until last Saturday when she was taken in by the Humane Society. I am losing my home to foreclosure and have rented a room in a home that will not allow pets. I have been on disability since April but will be returning to work in two weeks. My work hours are long and not conducive to having dogs.
Mr. B is a friendly, loveable, cuddly, cute-as-a-button pup. He loves his rawhide "chewy" and very much enjoyed playing with Emma Grace (the Chihuahua). He is a good walker and is housetrained. He also got along well with a large dog that stayed in the home for a couple of months. He barks at the cat he can see in the window across from us.
Mr. B is independent and usually sleeps on the sofa until morning when he will join me in bed.
Mr. B has bitten me but this was in the first few days I had him and was trying to get him out from under the bed. He bit a friend when the friend reached across him and Mr. B thought he was going to take his "chewy" away. More recently he has ceased to snap and playfully bites. He appears to be lonely and somewhat bored since Emma Grace hs been gone.
BB would do well in almost any home that has compassion for this little lovebug given he may not have gotten off to a good start in life. His only fear, other than having a toy removed, is being close to someone lighting a cigarette. He will go behind the sofa if this occurs.
I will be moving on 9/4 and hope to find a home for BB by that time although I have a friend that can keep him for a brief time.
Thank you,

Everyone,
I have been posting Lucas' plight for several days now. He's the 43 LB, NEUTERED chow x at AAS that Angie from CCHS evaluated for me. She provided Susan and I a very favorable report; while sitting in Lucas' kennel with him, Lucas leaned in close against Angie and rested his head on her shoulder. He was eager to make new friends and appreciated the attention. Angie says while Lucas' fur is shorter, it's very dense and "plush" like a teddy bear!

I had asked Susan if she could please test Lucas with other dog(s). Below is her reply. Lucas showed NO AGGRESSION! PLEASE, can someone make room for Lucas? If you can help Lucas, please "tag" for rescue by following the procedures outlined here. Lucas WILL be on tonight's EU list!!!!!

I need help with a beautiful pit bull that was chained in the rear of a vacant house in my neighborhood. She is very friendly towards people. I have attached two pictures of her. In one of them, she is giving me kisses!! She is VERY affectionate and has alot of love to give. I don't know how she would be with other dogs. She might be aggressive. So, for the last two weeks, I have been going over there and giving her food, water, and attention. She doesn't appear to be spayed. She looks as though she has had pups. I am fearful that if I contact animal control they will put her down. Pit Bull Rescue groups have turned me away because I am not the legal owner. She has no owner as she was abandoned. I know that I need to have her spayed, but there isnt a place for her to recover.I am certain that her incision would become infected as she would be laying in dirt. She is sill chained to a tree and the yard has no grass for her to lay in. I am scared to let her off the chain as I fear she might escape from the yard and possibly be aggressive towards another animal.I have created a make shift shelter for her to get away from the elements. I have to go over several times a day to make certain her chain isn't tangled. I don't even know what to do. Could you please get the word out about this dog. She is so sweet, and her future seems so uncertain. Please help me help her. Tom Trimble (404) 513- 8828

She was impounded back on August 15th and is 10 years old so her survivability at the shelter is precarious. Please read here what volunteers have written about her and rescue or adopt her if you can. She is Impound Number A371304 at the City of San Bernardino shelter.

#77, A371304, Tiny, owner surrender, 8/15, female, brown and white Labrador Retriever, approximately 10 years old, this poor poor dog is way too old to be at the shelter, gentle, calm, and laid-back, affectionate and loves people. Needs a comfortable place to sleep instead of a cold concrete floor!!

Once upon a time someone bought a darling little puppy. She was sweet and fun and everyone thought she was cute. As she grew older everyone loved her the way that people love labs - the people's dog. But her owner grew old and frail and was unable to care for herself and her dog and had to go to live with family - a family that promptly put her in the car and drove her to the shelter in San Bernardino.

Bewildered, "Tiny" was led from the car and into "that place". A place rank with smells - and none of them good. She started to cry as they turned around and left her there. Shelter workers stopped and frowned - in a place where callousness is mainplace they were saddened as they watched.

Abandoned and betrayed..."Tiny" is losing hope. She is lost there. No one will adopt her....unless....you can.

Please pass this email on...it may mean that someone may come for her. Before it's too late.

This information is as of 8/22/09, and if you are interested in any of these dogs, please act immediately as the shelter may not keep the dogs for very long due to extreme crowdedness. Please make sure to call before going to the shelter to ask about availability. There are many more great dogs at the shelter...READ MORE

Heartworm Funds Desperately Needed
August 24, 2009

It must seem that rescue groups are always asking for something, but today we are in desperate need of funds for heartworm treatment for our rescued dogs. Deuce's level 4 heartworm treatment has been completed as well as Olivia's, but we still have Harry & Sally, Bonnie & Clyde, Oreo and Ace that need treatment. On top of the heartworm treatments, our medical expenses have been huge this year due to the unusually high number of cases of distemper, parvo and kennel cough. Oso and Tawny are both distemper survivors, but the cost was significant. In addition to shelter dogs at risk, we have taken in street dogs like Oreo, who was left pregnant to starve, and little Tawny, who at only 3 months old was being used as a bait dog. Any donation is appreciated ... $5, $10, or $15 dollars. This would make a huge dent in our current vet bill and enable us to complete treatment on our other heartworm positive dogs. Thank you from all our rescued animals!

How to Donate

Donations can be made online at: http://www.metroplexmutts.org/ or they can be mailed to: Metroplex Mutts 4925 Greenville Ave. #200 Dallas, TX 75206. All donations are tax deductible. Below are pictures of our heartworm positive dogs.

Heartworm Positive Doggies

To end on a positive note, we had 8 adoptions this weekend! We couldn't do it without you.

Sincerely,

Tricia Todd

Please cross post ! I have already checked the shelter websites and Petfinder, will continue to check them daily. Toby is a lot heavier than in the photo which is a few years old, and he is semi-feral. He recently had the surgery to eliminate Feline Urinary Syndrome. He unfortunately does NOT have a collar or microchip. The folks at Gulf Coast have also been looking for him, but all the noise and effort probably scared him into hiding. Please call Carol Read at 281 460 3999 if you spot him..., or know of someone in Houston who has a cat-tracking dog.

Subject: Broken Kittens

Meet Christopher Paws and Earl Gray

They are kittens with broken limbs. Rescued from Orange County shelter and are now at the vets. First vet wanted $2K a piece to repair these guys but we sent x-rays to dear Dr Coghlan and he can repair one for $900 and the other for $600.
These two have become bonded spending time with each other----both needing a second chance on life and finding their forever homes. Can you help repair these broken kittens?
ANY AMOUNT you can donate is appreciated.
You can donate thru Paypal to : MeoowzResQ@aol.com
or by check or credit card directly to the hospital

PLEASE CROSSPOST! CONTACT: staradoptions@yahoo.com. This is hurting my heart. I want to bring him to my house but I have no space. STAR is seriously overloaded. We have 14 in boarding. No room at our homes, no space at boarding, vets are full.

Chester's ear is so horribly infected and swollen that the vet cannot see inside it. This old man obviously has never known kindness in his life. He has never known comfort or love. Please help us make sure his final days matter. Please help us show Chester what a full bowl and a heart full of love feels like. I set up a ChipIn in his Petfinder listing. WE NEED DONATIONS AND WE NEED A RESCUE ASAP!

STAR, Saving The Animals of Rowan, is a 501c3 non profit so donations are tax deductable. We have many wonderful dogs in desperate need right now. To donate you can use the chipin's on the site, or paypal to sdcreasap@roadrunner.com

This young guy and his family have fallen on hard times and have had to move in with family. So now he is tied out and they can't afford very good food and he is getting skinnier by the day. I suspect he has a bad case of worms. The family would like to find him a better way of life. Contact Tammie at Tamisakita@aol.com or 502-525-1047

Baldwin CA: Video! 11th hour. Time's passed up! URGENT! BEAR senior mix to die any minute

The record for this Los Angeles County hunk may be viewable by clicking HERE. Even though Bear A3914021 has been networked and promoted since his impoundment July 13th, there has been no rescue or adoption for this gorgeous gentle giant Shep/Retriever mix. He is way passed deadline and may be killed at any minute. http://www.dogsindanger.com/ even shows Bear A3914021 as dying today August 23rd. However the database for Los Angeles County shows him as still alive and available. Obviously this is very 11th hour. If anyone can save this wonderful dog, they must act immediately.
