FYI. My friend's rescue center, Villalobos (Ca.) Rescue Center, finally got an air date on Animal Planet for a new reality show. Tia's got over 200 dogs in her rescue, most adoptable but some are life residents for many reasons, but this show has the potential to not only increase adoptions for her and those dogs, but increase compassion, awareness, and yes, adoptions in all areas. It might also help counteract the terrible message still being sent by HSUS's support of Michael Vick as she hires parolees to help care and maintain the facility. So these are non dog-fighting guys who made mistakes but who treat the dogs with compassion.

Ok, off my soap box ... it airs tonight at 10 pm. Set those Tivo's....

Got a call fm my vets office about dumped/found dog of 121 in Anna, could I help? I did my usual send me pics and info, yada yada and then the lady said "she would go out and try and find her to get pics!"
What??? Thats right, they left this poor girl on a cold wet very busy highway. So needless to say she is at my house. I cannot foster her b/c I am at foster limit. If I take her to Collin County she will be put down. So pls can anyone make room for her?
So far she seems to be good w/ other dogs and she loves kids. She was starving and has woofed down two bowls of food. She may know some basic commands too, further testing required. I asked her to sit for her pic and she did. She is about 3-4yrs. Had quite a few litters. She is small, maybe 20-25lbs.
Here are pics, let me know if you can help......

My name is Michelle. I live in Maurice, La. About 4 days ago someone I guess dumped 2 male beagles. They are very sweet boys. They have adopted to live on our porch. Unfortunately, our landlord doesn't allow us to have dogs. Our local pound is full and is putting any animals they get down when they get them. I have been contacting all the groups in my area in hopes of finding them homes. They must have been someone's dogs and been dumped since they had collars and the indentions are still there.
They would make very good pets for someone they just need a chance and a forever home. I wish we could have dogs but we can't. The lighter one seems to be the older one.
So I am hoping you have a foster home until they can get a forever home. Where they can be safe and healthy.
Michelle

Clancy is tired of bars -- tired of cages -- but not too tired to be your furry purring companion. Clancy loves to be held, to explore, and to lay by your side.

Please set him free!!! Call the South L.A. shelter at (213) 485-0117 or -0119 and do just that. Tell them you want Clancy (A1065535, 15 pounds, already neutered, 8 years old). World: Event. 10/24. International Day of Climate ACTION

10/25 Debriefing: Bill McKibben wrote regarding the hugely successful worldwide event:

Please head to www.350.org and spend a few minutes watching the pictures. We need you to feel the strength of this movement, and to see how creative and committed this movement is, all across the planet...Together, we've shown the world that a global climate movement is possible and set a bold new agenda for the upcoming United Nations Climate Meetings in Copenhagen this December. The 350 target is the new bottom line for climate action and world leaders must now meet that target...We thought we would be tired after many sleepless nights planning this day, but in fact we're more energized than ever. We're preparing to deliver the photos and messages from your events to every national delegation to the United Nations on Monday, and planning to hand the photos to high-level ministers at upcoming climate negotiations in Barcelona and Copenhagen. So if you haven't uploaded your best pictures from the event yet, please do so right away by sending us an e-mail to photos@350.org with your photos attached, with your City, Country as the subject and the body as the action description...Thank you more than we can possibly say. We'll (of course) be asking you to do lots more in the weeks ahead -- but today, lean back, relax, look through pictures at 350.org, and savor your accomplishment. You were part of what many journalists called "the most widespread day of political action the world has ever seen." Together with millions around the world, you made a real difference already -- get ready to make much more in the days, weeks and months to come.

***********************************************************
Bill McKibben wrote following sample email. Please share...

On October 24, 2009, millions of people around the world will take action to spread the number 350, the safe level of CO2 in the atmosphere measured in parts per million, and make sure world leaders are on course to reach that target.

I'm attending a 350.org event near me because I want to be part of the solution. Please check out http://www.350.org to find or start an October 24 event near you.

It's urgent that we act together and build a movement that will solve the climate crisis and ensure a safe and just future for the world. Please join me, and help build this movement at 350.org

NYC NY: $$$ needed. Event. 11/1. RUN for Cocker Spaniel CODY!!!

Dolores R. and Debbie F. issued the following plea. Please go to link.

From: Abandoned Angels [mailto:rescue@nyabandonedangels.com]
Sent: Wednesday, October 21, 2009
Subject: RUN FOR CODY - CAN YOU PLEASE CROSSPOST

Dear Friends,
Imagine if every inch of your skin hurt, so much so that you could not allow anyone even to give you a hug. Imagine if your skin were hot to the touch, so much so that the thought of anyone touching you made you recoil. Imagine if you itched from head to toe but to scratch was so painful that you could not decide which was worse - to itch or to inflict pain upon yourself by scratching. This is the current nightmare of Cody's life.

Cody is a 7 year old buff and white Cocker Spaniel. He came to us two years ago from another rescue, covered in ringworm. We were never able to adopt him out as, without fail, whenever we eradicated one skin malady, another would erupt within a few weeks or months. After every painful bout of skin disease, it would take us time to settle Cody down and for his sweet demeanor to return. He was always on edge, always afraid that his pain would return.

We had just about gotten Cody turned around both medically and emotionally when it came time for his rabies shot. Little did we know the havoc that this routine vaccination would wreak on his system. We can only describe it as having completely felled him, triggering a form of resistant Staph infection so vile and potent that only one antibiotic (which must be administered intravenously in a hospital setting) had a hope of eradicating it. In addition, out of the blue, poor Cody tore a cruciate in a rear leg, an injury that requires surgery to repair - surgery that cannot be undertaken when an animal is covered in lesions caused by a form of lethal Staph.

While some recommended euthanasia, we could not bring ourselves to put down a dog who had come so far behaviorally and so clearly wanted to live. And so we sought out a specialist to give it one more try. Cody has thus far undergone 23 days of hospitalization at the Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers, NY, where he has endured painful antibiotic treatment (one that burns when administered intravenously). He has also been aggressively treated with a regimen of medicated baths and topical antibiotic ointments. While we initially believed his treatment to be a shot in the dark - one without much hope - to our amazement Cody has turned a corner. His skin has begun to heal and, given his current rate of progress, he should be a surgical candidate within 2-4 weeks.

Who would spend $10,000 saving a shelter dog? People like Debbie Fierro who, in between driving dogs to safety for the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, has been training for the NYC Marathon, which she is running on November 1st in Cody's honor. And people like us (you and me), who are willing to donate $1.00 or more for each of the 26 miles Debbie will run in order to save Cody's life.

If you would like to help Debbie Fierro "Run For Cody", please consider making a donation of $26.00 or more by clicking on the below link, which will take you to Cody's page and our paypal link. Donations in any amount will of course be appreciated and, as we are a 501(c) non-profit, all donations are tax-deductible.

Subject: Re: PLEASE READ - Shelter is full.

Transport cancelled until Sunday or Monday. I can go up on Sunday and transport, or A.C. can come down on Monday if we can get at least 5 dogs on the truck. We have 3 as it stands now.

Lake County animal control is full there is a Male and Female Min Pin pair 1.5 years old. Can anyone take?? We need to get some more dogs on the truck, there are only 3 lucky dogs on it right now.

Also....

6 month old female papered basset hound (Not Pictured) I do have a picture if you are interested.

and all of these....
