SHARK: 2009 is Almost Over, and it is Going Out With the Proverbial "Bang!"

2009 is Almost Over, and it is Going Out With the Proverbial "Bang!"

SHARK's Accomplishments Throughout the Year

Dear Friends,

What a year! Thanks to your generous support, SHARK has been able to expose and stop more animal cruelty than ever before. Some of our victories include continuing to expose rodeo cruelty and rodeo lies, exposing cruel pigeon shoots, outing corrupt law enforcement, and exposing the deer killer Anthony DeNicola. On the legal front, SHARK filed suit to defend activist's First Amendment rights on YouTube and we also sued the federal government for access to hidden FOIA records in a celebrity bear killing case. All of this in addition to educating literally millions of people about animal cruelty through our videos.

SHARK's reach in busting rodeo animal abuse literally ranges from coast to coast - from California to New Jersey, including Wyoming, New Mexico, Illinois, Oklahoma, Oregon, Nevada and among others. The PRCA had to pay for falsely claiming copyright of our videos and had to issue an apology for a "misstatement" after we exposed them.

In Pennsylvania we are hot after the cowards who shoot pigeons catapulted out of boxes, and the Tiger video truck has been there in support.  Deer serial killer Anthony DeNicola paid cash for his behavior against us in Ohio. We've also been involved in exposing the cesspool of corruption that is Illinois.

In 2009, SHARK created and uploaded over 50 videos documenting our cruelty investigations. More videos are always in process and continue to be uploaded regularly.  SHARK has over 8 million views and is the 8th most viewed nonprofit of all time on YouTube.

I hope I can count on you to support us again in 2010, because we have plans that are going to rock the world of animal abusers, and I want you to be there to see it.

The following are a few of SHARK's highlights and some of our 2009 cruelty investigation videos for your review:

KAPLAN (Vermilion) LA: lovable cats/dogs on DEATH ROW: 01/06/2010

Hi all,

Happy new year to you, your family and all your furry friends!

PLEASE CROSS POST - contact breed specific rescue group if you know any.
LABRADORS, ROTTWEILER, HEELERS, RAT TERRIERS, CHIHUAHUA, POODLE, COOHOUND, MIXES OF ALL KINDS

IMPORTANTDO NOT confuse the Kaplan/Vermilion Parish pound and Animal Aid for Vermilion Area!
Animal Aid for Vermilion Area is an animal welfare organization who is trying very hard to help save dogs and cats from the pound.  Animal Aid is trying to keep the pets healthy by deworming and vaccinating them when possible and as funding allows, but the pets who are at the pound are NOT in Animal Aid's care. Animal Aid is only one person on site, two at the most, trying to do everything (keep an eye on the pets at the facility, deworm, vaccinate, answer questions and e-mails, make sure pictures are taken for listing, transport when necessary...), please understand what a titanic task this is! (You can help is by making a donation: vaccines and dewormers are NOT free. Your donations are tax deductible, and you can still donate for this year! Scroll to the bottom of fhe page http://members.petfinder.com/~LA26/index.htm).

Below is a list of pets currently at/from the pound in Kaplan/Vermilion, LA. They are listed as a courtesy under Animal Aid of Vermilion Area but they are really at the pound in Kaplan, which does not have an adoption program.
For more information on how to save one - or many more - of these pets, please e-mail AnimalAidVermilion@gmail.com ASAP.
Euthanasia is scheduled for next Wednesday 01/06/2010. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!!

In other pounds, the number of pets on death row decreases thanks in part to the public adopting pets, NOT in Kaplan. THE KAPLAN POUND DOES NOT HAVE AN ADOPTION PROGRAM TO THE PUBLIC, this is why it is a particular challenge to save pets from there. I.e. the only way pets can get out of that pound alive is through animal welfare organizations. If John Doe, wants a dog or cat from there, he needs to find a group willing to put the pet in its adoption program.

Another issue is that the pound is under a court order to avoid overcrowding: ONLY ONE DOG PER CAGE! and this is one of the reasons given for euthanizing pets, as there are between 10 and 20 pets brought in every day and only a limited number of cages. This is why, PLEASE, when you are offering to take a pet, you need to ACT FAST, get the pet physically out of the facility ASAP. Animal Aid for Vermilion Area is desperately trying to help but there is only so much ONE ot two persons can do in a day. So PLEASE... try to understand and organize the transport or the fostering as much as possible on your end.

PLEASE DO NOT SUGGEST you will take a pet if you don't have the firm intention to do so.
This only endangers the life of the pet, hurts the relationship with the pound and confuses things to a great extend. When a rescue group says they will come on a certain day but does not show up, not only may the pets be killed but it may also be used to justify NOT letting animal welfare organizations pull pets anymore. This possibity has already been brought up. What would happen then? EVERY SINGLE PET WOULD BE KILLED. NO EXCEPTION. NO CHANCES AT SURVIVAL.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING! Please don't let the Vermilion pets down, help us save as many as possible.

For more information on how to save one - or many more - of these pets, please e-mail AnimalAidVermilion@gmail.com ASAP.
Remember: donating to help pay for the vaccines, the dewormers... is also of great help!
Euthanasia is scheduled for next Wednesday 01/06/2010. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!!

Animal Legal Defense Fund: Support the prosecution of animal abusers

I just sent a letter asking that all animal cruelty and neglect cases be thoroughly prosecuted, and that meaningful sentences are sought for convicted animal abusers. Please take a stand against animal abuse and send a letter today!
John Crosby's 64-year-old neighbor says she'd do it all over again. Previously facing theft and trespass charges for entering Crosby's property in October 2009 and unchaining his dog, Ann Wylene Lam had reportedly informed local authorities of the alleged neglect months earlier. Speaking with reporters in early December, she described her impression of the dog on the day she rescued him: "He's not eating, he won't pick his head up out of his bowl, he's giving up, he's just quitting."
John Crosby expressed in a December 2009 news interview that he could not afford to take the dog to a veterinarian, and was unaware of the local prohibition against tethering. The dog was given over to Savannah/Chatham County Animal Control by Ms. Lam, but ultimately did not survive. John Crosby has been charged with tethering and animal neglect.
Please send a letter to District Attorney Larry Chisolm and thank him for prosecuting animal abusers.

DEBORAH OF CORRIDOR RESCUE WROTE:
Kelle did it - she worked her magic and got Momma in the trap, and then proceeded to rescue the 6 puppies under the building too!!!  THANK YOU Kelle and THANK YOU to Pup Squad for stepping up to the plate for this dog family.  Thank you to all of you also that offered help for Momma - I hope she can FEEL the LOVE!!!!

The puppies seem healthy and are maybe 4 weeks old.  They are still waddling around rather than running yet.  Momma's neck is bad-off and based on what I was told of the condition she might require surgery.  I know Pup Squad will appreciate DONATIONS so please help if you can by contacting the vet where these babies are now headed or by visiting their webiste at: http://www.pupsquad.org/donations.shtml

AND PLEASE, PLEASE - Kelle could not leave the young, purebred female chow BEHIND!!!  She's in her truck but with NO WHERE TO GO!!!!  Just think of how cozy she could be even in a boarding facility compared to what life would have been for her tonight with the bad weather coming!  She is tan with black muzzle and FRIENDLY - came right up to Kelle and hopped in her truck!

If you can take the chow - please contact Kelle ASAP at: 832-969-8831.

PLEASE CROSSPOST THIS MESSAGE to get HELP for CHOW GIRL!!!

Thanks,

The pictures taken after the removal of the embedded collar are very graphic.  It is a miracle the momma dog survived and was able to care for her puppies.  The momma was trapped, taken to the vet and is now with Pup Squad.  With any luck, the momma will survive.  Surprisingly, the puppies are in good health (considering the circumstances).

This is Mercy- and her pups, rescued today from under a construction trailer. The story I got was she showed up there about 2 months ago and it was immediately obvious she was pregnant and had a horribly embedded collar. They had tried to gain her trust and did keep her fed, however were never able to get her to come up to them so that they could get her medical treatment. She had her pups about 3 weeks ago under the trailer. I received an email yesterday about her and knew that had to do something for her and her pups. I set out this morning with trap (thanks Deborah with Corridor Rescue!!), a snappy snare, lots of good smelly cat food and a crate. I stopped on the way at Whataburger to get some delicious chicken strips and while there I saw a small Chow Chow dancing around people coming out for scraps.

She came up to me and I shared my trap chicken and was told she had been dumped there about 6 days ago. More about her later! I got to the business and set up trap and didn't take long and momma dog started to bark and growl at me whenever I approached the trailer that was home to her pups. She sniffed the trap only about 15 minutes before going in and she was caught! She let me pet her inside trap and was very sweet and actually seemed grateful and seemed to understand that although she was scared, she was also safe. I crawled to the middle of under the trailer and found 6 little rolly polly pups about 3 weeks old. All seemed very healthy! While awaiting directions to vet, I went back to Whataburger to see what I could do about the Chow girl and to my horror she was on side of ramp leading up to freeway. just watching the cars go by. I waited until it was safe (after going in for more chicken!)  and called her. She immediately came to me and I was able to get her with the snappy snare! We need foster for this girl asap. Please help her if you can. She is about 1 1/2 yrs old and sweet and a little shy. Please email me if you can help ! I took Momma to vets and it was discovered that under her nylon collar was a flea collar and that she was just weeks, if not days, away from death from crushing of the trachea. She was very lucky today and she seemed to know it. I came back into the room after they had removed the collars and she wagged her tail when I talked to her! I was so happy and knew then she was going to be ok and one day make a great family member! Her and her pups have been taken in by Pup  Squad- and a great big THANKS to them for helping this little family get  a chance at life!! Just wanted to share my story with some of my favorite rescue people! Thanks also to Deborah Hoffman for helping me coordinate this venture!
