BATON ROUGE, LA: Kill shelter impound Walter is a shy, toothless senior dog needing rescue

PLEASE CROSSPOST!  CONTACT IS BILL (william.roberts@shawgrp.com or 225-252-7185) OR JAMIE (jmoore@babc.com or 205-521-8045).

We don't know what this older dog's life has been like, but he has lost most of his teeth, is a sweet, sad boy, is rail thin, and sits quietly in the animal control pen he shares amiably with another dog.  He is happy to be petted but shy.  He looks like a thousand other dogs, who also don't deserve to die, in shelters across the country.  He is not a young and fluffy puppy, and is easily overlooked as he lies patiently in the animal control kennel.  But his eyes plead for help and we can't let this dog's life end without showing him what it means to be loved, safe and treated with dignity.

He was crisscrossing a four-lane highway, about to be hit by cars, and could not be caught when several passerby stopped to try to help them.  Another person called the dogcatcher, and he is now at a high kill shelter in Baton Rouge.

Amazingly, he is HW- and has no mange although he has some small scabs on his body and an ear infection.  The animal control vet estimates his age at 7-8 years.  He weighs 35-40 pounds but needs to gain weight.  We think he looks like a Walter, and we want him to have a happy ending.  We will pull him, get him fully vetted and neutered, and transport him.  Does anyone else see that this is a special boy whose life should not end now?  Walter would be so grateful to finally be someone's loved dog.  Please help us help him to safety!

Bill (william.roberts@shawgrp.com or 225-252-7185) and Jamie (jmoore@babc.com or 205-422-7958).
