They surrendered him because he was "old and destructive". He has been chewing on the bottom of the gate to his kennel. It's thick metal chain link and he has pulled some of it loose. With training and proper care though, I don't know if that's a habit that could be dealt with. He's pretty stressed being here. I don't think he was taken care of, no vet records really. They said he was inside/outside, good with children and they said not good with other dogs/cats. However, we haven't had any issues here nor seen any signs. He has not been kenneled with anyone and hasn't been turned out. But there's no outward signs of aggression when walking near or while passing others. They did say he was an escape artist, but with his coat, we've kept him indoors and our inside kennels are fool proof.
