Subj: URGENT: Dogs at ACCT need foster or forever homes! Lots of special cases!

Hi everyone!
Please help spread the word! I have put our most urgent cases up top- they are declining in the shelter and need to find foster or forever homes as soon as possible or are at extremely high risk of euthanasia- Please spread the word! More info on fostering and adoption is below.
MOST URGENT CASES:

Manny- URGENT
Manny (A11344977) is a goofy, playful 1 year old puppy. Manny is an adorable black dog with white markings and weighs about 35 pounds. Silly Manny was found as a stray and clearly hasn't had a great start to life. Not only did Manny come into the shelter underweight and with scars, but she is also suffering from ringworm! If you look past all this, you will fall in love with her personality! Ringworm is contagious so Manny cannot in the shelter- in order to avoid euthanasia, Manny must leave into foster care or rescue IMMEDIATELY. Manny loves people, and sometimes think she's a lap dog.  She will play bow and bark to try to get you to play, and just needs to learn some manners. She has lots of puppy energy and is looking forward to learning basic obedience. Manny seems to like other dogs. All ringworm meds will be provided free of cost by the shelter. Please save Manny's life  today! Photos at:

ANCHOVY- URGENT
Anchovy (A11300762) was brought into the shelter by the police when they found him loose in Mantua.  He is a gorgeous chocolate-all-over pit who's about 2 or 3 years old, already neutered and microchipped.  He was apparently adopted in the past by someone who lost him and is not attempting to reclaim him, and poor Anchovy is terrified of the shelter.  He's a very loving boy, but he hits the deck and refuses to walk through the loud, scary hallways.  Once outside he can loosen up a little bit, but dives into a lap as if to express his relief and gratitude at being safe with a human.  He showed some interest in toys, but was not relaxed enough to let loose and really play.  He appreciates a good scratch-down because he's got some hot spots and flea bites, and might like to play wi! th another dog if they were the right kind of playmate.  He needs a bath, and a safe, loving home where he will be appreciated for the sweet guy he is. Photos at:
MUMU- URGENT
Mumu (A11382595) is a 9- to 12-month-old female brown and white pit puppy who was found tied to a tree in Hunting Park!  She has an old, healed front leg fracture that doesn't seem to bother her at all, but she doesn't put weight on it when she stands.  She is very snuggly and loves to hop up on chairs and laps.  She did exceptionally well with an older, female dog -- they sniffed each other once and immediately acted like they'd known each other forever! She walks fairly well on a leash for such a young girl, but she doesn't know much in the way of basic training and could use some hints on when not to jump up.  Mumu is an all-around sweetheart who needs an object for her affections!

Brian - URGENT
Brian (11356450) is a spunky pup 4 months old that needs some work! This poor guy is itchy with demodex (non contagious) mange and likes to rub himself all over you. He's very playful and can be a bit rude at times with his big paws. Brian needs to learn basic obedience, as he can be a bit mouthy with his cute little puppy teeth! Brian will entertain himself for hours with toys, pigeons, and exploring- and its hilarious to watch! Brian has some very minor resource guarding and needs a confident foster parent or new owner that can work through his very manageable food issues and help him grow up into a wonderful big boy!
Shirley (11385587)**URGENT**
Sad Shirley is a 1-2 year old owner surrender that was brought to ACCT with her 8 puppies because the owners no longer wanted them. Shirley's puppies are safe, but this poor, shy girl is stuck in the shelter waiting for someone to give her a chance. She's quite underweight and her chocolate coat is in rough shape, but with some proper nutrition and TLC, we think Shirley will bounce back. She's nervous around new people, and will take her time coming to you for attention. She perks up around other dogs, so a confident, friendly dog friend may be just what she needs to to become more comfortable around people.

Myra- URGENT
Myra is an adorable 20 pound blue fawn Chihuahua-Pit mix  that is 2-4 years old. Poor Myra was found cowering in the middle of the street, and she is soooo scared and shut down. She creeps slowly and gently into your lap and doesn't want to get off. She opens up more around other dogs, but wants them to be slow and respectful because she is still learning to trust and come out of her shell. She is very gentle and sweet and after warming up to you will paw at you for lap time and give you very light kisses on your arm. Myra will absolutely not improve in the shelter environment and needs to leave IMMEDIATELY. Photos at:
DOGS AT ACCT:
Moe- URGENT
Moe (11282041) is a 5-10 year old Shepherd/Lab mix that was surrendered by her owners
because they can no longer afford to care for her. She loves
attention and will bark in the kennels until you take her out. She
walks very nicely on a leash, seems to be housebroken and is good with
handling. Moe is very food motivated, but has no resource guarding.
She seems to like cats and is ok with most other calm dogs. Moe is
currently being treated for a urinary track infection.
Kyle- URGENT
Kyle (11243364) is a 3-5 year old chow-chow mix. Kyle was found
running loose and someone brought him to animal control. Kyle was
found with a silver collar on his neck and it appears to have been
embedded. We have removed the collar and you can see he has hair loss
and skin irritation. Possible infection as the area had a bad odor.
Kyle is emaciated and would do well in a foster home or rescue where
he can recover. He is friendly with other dogs as he was relaxed with
the dogs we introduced him to. Semi reactive to cats when they hissed
at him, but nothing serious. Kyle was ok with body handling and didn't
mind being touched. Please come rescue Kyle today! Photos at:
Adrien- URGENT
Adrien (11354419) is a senior Retriever/ Labrador mix who is desperate to find a loving, caring person to save her from shelter life. Adrien was surrendered to ACCT because the owners could no longer keep her due to landlord issues. As you can imagine, Adrien has been very used to home life and is very confused and scared as to why she is in the shelter, living in a cage in her golden years. She is extremely well behaved and is very calm and easy going.  She is good with other dogs and loves attention and affection from her human friends.  Adrien is most likely house trained and she is even already spayed.  Please don't let this pretty girl with the smooth, caramel color  & white coat have to live in the shelter any longer!! Come to ACCT today and give her the life she so desperately deserves!!!

Kuma
Kuma (A11347534) is a handsome 3 year old male Akita who was surrendered because his owner was put into jail. Kuma has lived with other dogs and cats and children before. Kuma is a nice dog, but can be shy coming out of the kennel, and is aloof which is typical of the breed. Kuma walks great on the leash and has shown no food or dog issues since being here. Kuma is a handsome boy! Photos at:
Little Boy
Little Boy (A11358218) is a cute 1 year old Black Lab-Retriever mix that was surrendered to the shelter because his owner could no longer afford him. Poor Little Boy is underweight and could use some TLC. He is playful and rowdy and will need some good walks or exercises to keep him happy and healthy. His owners say he knows sit and lay down, but he has been too overexcited at the shelter to show off what he knows. Little boy has lived with a cat before, but is very unused to dogs- he is pretty pushy with other dogs and would need a tolerant dog that can teach him manners. Photos at:
Champ (11291529)
Champ is a 1-2 year old owner surrender American Bulldog. He was
surrendered by his owners because they felt he was being aggressive
with their children, we think that his owners never took the time to
give him any training and misunderstood his lack of manners and puppy
play. Champ is a big boy that was kept tied in his yard, so he's not
sure how to walk on a leash and we're pretty sure he's not
housebroken. He's a bit of a goof and likes to climb on your lap and
kiss your face. He's very friendly with everyone he meets and seems to
be okay with most other dogs. Champ needs a strong, experienced owner
that has time time to train such a big, strong to be a good boy!
POOH
Pooh (A11385905) is a 5-year-old Shiba Inu mix who is very smart, vocal and active.  He responds well to regular conversation and seems to anticipate what he'll be asked to do next.  He doesn't know basic commands, exactly, but could take to them quickly with a strong leader.   He was surrendered after his owner died and no one in the family wanted to keep him and his housemate Lucky, a female German Shepherd mix.  Pooh has also lived with cats and small children happily.  He needs a good grooming, since he's only around 30 lbs of dog, but there's plenty of fluffy undercoat hiding that.  He's friendly and fine with basic body handling, but doesn't love to be poked and prodded.  He kicks a lot of gravel and dirt around outside, which is funny to watch.  Pooh is a confident, independent dog who would flourish in a new home.

Selina
SELINA (10829450) is a small beautiful brindle and white pittie mix
who was found as a stray and has been patiently waiting for her
forever home since June.  She appears to have had a case of demodex
(non contagious) mange, but is well on her way to fully healing.
Selina has a lot of energy to burn, but some of it is because she has
been storing it for so long.  Selina does not appear to have had much
(or any!) experience walking on leash, but due to her size and with
some consistent training she should learn quickly.  Selina showed a
lot of dog interest and looked like he was up for a good healthy round
of playing, but would need to meet the resident dog to ensure the best match.
Zeus (11293446)
Zeus is a handsome 1-2 year old Lab mix that was surrendered by his
owners because his family was moving. He's whiny in the shelter and
wants to be with people as much as possible. He's fairly calm and
likes all kinds of attention and petting. He 's playful with toys but
not too hyper. He doesn't seem to mind cats and is a little unsure
about other dogs. He's nervous and lonley in the shelter. This
adorable boy with huge ears needs a home!
Bella
Bella (A10744070) is a silly, tennis ball loving, 1-2 year old female
pit mix. She was found as a stray in the Spring Garden section of the
city. She is very playful with people and did not mind being touched
anywhere on her body.  Bella is under socialized with other dogs,
ignores cats, and has no issues with food or resource guarding. Bella
is a lovely girl in need of a home ASAP because our shelter is full.

Happy
Happy (A10839872) is an approximate 1-2 year old male Pit Bull terrier
mix.  He was surrendered by his owners because the were moving and
unable to keep.  Happy is a very sweet boy who is very content just
climbing into your lap, lying his head on you and getting a little
love.  During all handling and behavior testing he was fine.  Happy
didn't show any interest in cats and seems very friendly and playful
with other dogs.  So stop by and meet this happy go lucky pup!
Hathoway
Hathoway (A11083438) is a small 6- to 9-month-old light brown pit mix
with 3/4 erect ears who was roaming around Germantown not too long
ago. She's got some patches of hair loss, but her coat is still super
soft. She has the very highest energy level and can be vocal when she
wants something from you or another dog. She definitely needs plenty
of exercise and loves to zig zag around at full speed, preferably with
another dog or two. She's confident and healthy (other than her
hairless spots) at about 25 lbs and probably won't be very big when
she grows up. Hathoway is ready to get out and explore and give her
kennel spot to another dog who needs it!
Ellen
ELLEN (A10087461) is a 1-2 year old female pit bull terrier mix. She
was returned to the shelter as her owners were moving and can't take
Ellen with them. She is an active girl who gets along great with other
dogs. Ellen should not go to a home with cats as she likes to chase
them. Ellen has already been spayed so she is ready to go home today.
She would do best in an active home where she gets lots of exercise.
Come take her home today! Photos at:
Mistie
Mistie (A11069250) is a 3-6 month old female pit bull terrier mix. She
was surrendered for adoption because her owners were moving and
couldnt take her with them. Since she is still a puppy she has lots of
energy. Mistie loves to run around and play. She would do best in a
home where someone will give her lots of exercise and teach her
manners. Since no one taught her how to walk on a leash, she will need
some help with that.  Mistie is a wonderful, beautiful puppy who needs
to leave the shelter today!
Photos at:
Emerson
Emerson (A11027184) is a pretty 1 year old American Pit Bull terrier
mix. She was found as a stray and appears to have had a bad start to
life. This is your chance to turn it around! Emerson has some scars on
her body, but that doesn't stop her from cuddling with you. She is
very friendly and got along well with all the dogs we tested her with.
Emerson would do best in a home with someone who would be patient with
her as well as someone who would work with hwe on training and
behavior. Come take this beautiful lady home today!
Photos at:
Syrina
Syrina (A11191525) is a 1-2 year old female terrier mix. She was
brought into the shelter by some nice police officers who found her
all alone. For such a young dog, Syrina has not had an easy life- she
was brought into the shelter with a broken tooth, skinny, some cuts
and scrapes, and has recently had a litter of pups.  This super
friendly lady walks nicely on a leash. She loves people and wants to
be with them all the time. She seems to enjoy the company of some
other dogs and would need to meet any other dogs of the family hoping
to adopt her before adoption. No cats for this little lady.  Syrina
was a lovely smile, as you can see- come meet her today!
London
London (A11153059) is a 6 month old female terrier mix surrendered
because her people did not have enough time for her.  London is
friendly with all people, enjoys being pet and getting rubs, and is
interested in playing with other dogs. She did not show any interest
in cats but would need another test if the family interested in
adopting her has cats.   This adorable baby who never had anyone teach
her how to walk on a leash or any basic training. She is alert a
bright and would make an excellent student.
Willis
Willis (A11243485) is a 1-2 year old shepherd/terrier mix. He was
found as a stray and the police brought him in. Willis is a very
playful dog and could use an owner to teach him manners. He did ok on
the leash and didn't respond to much correction. He would need an
experienced owner. Willis is not food aggressive and showed no
interest in cats. He is very playful with dogs but would do best with
a resident dog who can teach him how to play properly. Please come
save Willis. This guy needs a new home!
Photos at:
Lint
Lint (A11239991) is a 6-12 month old female pit bull terrier mix. She
was found by the police and brought to the shelter. Lint loves
attention and she walked well on the leash. She didn't seem to have
much human attention but once she warmed up she was affectionate. Lint
was ok with other dogs but seemed uncomfortable at times. She would
need slow introductions and supervised visits until she is more
comfortable. Lint seemed to want to play with the cats and was
sniffing them. If you have small children please bring them to meet
Lint. Come save Lint today!

nobody ever came looking for me!  I don't know why not, I'm an
awesome dog! I have no issues with body handling or food. I love
playing with people and toys. I am a pretty active boy, but it is just
because I am young and need to get my exercise! With some training, I
will make a perfect dog! I like playing with other dogs, I would just
need to meet your resident dog before you adopt me. ACCT staff can
help do a proper dog introduction to be sure that we will make perfect
doggy siblings!
Tibalt
Tibalt (A11208519) is a 6-12 month old pit bull terrier mix. He was
found  outside the shelter tied to a fence. He is a very laid back guy

Please come meet this sweet beautiful girl today!
Dex
Hey Dex!!  Sir Dexter (A11236877) is a young mutt that was found as a stray in mid-August and brought to the shelter.  He is skinny, and his skin is a little irritated but he is getting better on medication at the shelter, and being fed lots of good food to help him gain weight back.  He is affectionate and friendly, can reportedly be "pushy" with other dogs but is friendly towards them, so he would probably do well with an outgoing dog housemate.  He was a little over-eager to get treats, so he might need some training to behave well at feeding time, but who can blame such a skinny guy!!  Dexter needs to get fattened up a bit, and needs a little love from a new family to help him get back in shape.  Come meet a new wonderful member of your family at the ACCT shelter today!!
Catch
Meet Catch a 6-12 month old terrier mix, Catch's previous owner no longer had time for her, so now she is anxiously awaiting her new furever home.  Catch is a playful young girl who loves to play catch with a ball, and even give it back to you so you can throw it again!  She will show you her "play ball" position, in hopes of egging you on to play with her.  While she can be very full of life and playful, she will also be happy to just sit by your side for some affection.  Catch weighs approximately 30-35 lbs, has a beautiful cream colored coat with perfectly placed burnt orange spots, and has the most beautiful green eyes.  She knows she's beautiful too because she will pose for the camera every time!  Most likely Catch has not had the opportunilty to meet too many dogs, so it woul! d be best to bring your dog to the shelter to meet her.  She met some cats and seemed interested, but didn't really bother with them.  Catch is already spayed so she's ready to be adopted today!!!  Please stop by ACCT to meet this sweet girl today!

Pooki (11383982)
Pooki is a cropped eared cutie that came to ACCT as a stray. This beautiful 3-5 year old pit mix is all about wiggling and wagging and saying hi to everyone she meets. She seems to really like other dogs and will play bow to greet them. She is quite strong on the leash and needs to learn her manners. Pooki seems to be housebroken.
Pepper (11368954)
Pepper is a 9-12 month old pit mix that was surrendered by her owners because they can't afford to care for her. She's a friendly, outgoing girl that can be a little rambuncious at times, but listens fairly well to commands (she knows sit and stay). Pepper can be a little hand shy, and is often submissive, but friendly with other dogs. She needs to learn her basic manners, but seems to be housebroken and is more than eager to please!

Are you interested in one of the dogs at ACCT? If so…
Great! First, decide if you are interested in fostering or adopting!
To determine whether you should apply to foster versus adopt, please consider the following information:
-To adopt a dog means to commit to being the primary caregiver for the dog and keep it in your possession, for yourself for the rest of its life. Adult dogs are $75 to adopt, puppies (under 6 months old) are $125- that donation covers the vaccines, microchip, surgery, etc that the dog has received.
- To foster a dog means to commit to temporarily caring for the dog while also working to find the dog a "forever home"/adopter. While fostering the dog remains ACCT's property, but the foster parent takes responsibility for marketing the dog, and doing a preliminary screening of any potential adopters. When an adopter is found, the foster parent must coordinate with the ACCT Life Saving office to approve the adopter and finalize the adoption. If the foster parent decides after time that they would like to keep the dog, they must complete the adoption process and pay the adoption fee. ** Fostering is not a trial adoption.**
More about fostering:
Although previous fostering experience is not required, ideal foster care provider will have basic knowledge of animal care and training and be committed to finding their foster animal a safe and loving "forever home". As a foster care provider, you will provide the animals with care including, food, water, shelter, training, grooming and medical treatment when necessary. The PSPCA will provide clinic and vet care, behavior and training resources, and adoption counseling. We rely on the foster parent to find an adoptive home for the dog, but we can help! We provide adoption events for you attend, can post your foster dog on Petfinder for you, etc. We cannot guarantee how long a foster dog will be in your care, since you keep the dog until an adoptive home is found, which can be anywhere from 2 weeks to a few months depending on the dog, a! nd how heavily you market it.
