Another contest (by bissel) and Chase's photo is in SECOND PLACE! sooo close! so yeah, a vote is needed please
Who would imagine shes a model! A dumped, abused dog/

Orthopedic surgeries on dogs run in the low thousands (the smaller the bones the more expensive) that's what we do, take the medical cases-most who have been run over and left for dead. Chase needs patella surgery. WE just need a vote for Chase. No apps this time, just an email here is the link to vote

Aside from that the shelter have control over their population.  IP's are good for 3 days, but will be denied by a ACT Supervisor if the privilege is being abused.  This means simply that if there is a dog you are interested in it, the best thing is to treat it as if it were on the Red List and get it out ASAP.

Haiti: Food For Life Haiti Relief Effort Update (vegan food relief)

http://www.ffl.org/ffl_featured_story.php
Hospital distribution in Santo Domingo Food for Life Global volunteers are continuing their distribution of freshly prepared vegan lunches for Haitian survivors of the earthquake who are now being cared for in the Dr. Dario Contreras Hospital in Santo Domingo. Volunteers prepare the lunches at the local FFL kitchen and then package them to be handed out at the hospital, which specializes in trauma.
(Volunteers serving prepared vegan meals to Haitian survivors)
Haiti DistributionWe have made great progress in securing a working relationship with other agencies to begin our distribution in Haiti. This Sunday, a FFLG team will join a convoy of trucks accompanied by the military to provide food support to Ms. Rosa Maria Garcia, president of Haitian-Dominican Chamber of Commerce, and her team of relief workers in Jacmel and Port Au Prince. Food for Life Global is also working in cooperation with the Defensa Civil which is part of Ministry for Defense. Project coordinator, Richard Higgins said, "We feel very confident now that we have this military protection in Haiti. This first mission into the disaster zone will give FFLG first hand knowledge of what we are up against." Sanitation One of the major challenges faced by all aid agencies is sanitation, so FFL Global has partnered with New Directions Foundation that specializes in sanitation solutions. "There is sewage all over the ground in Haiti. It is extremely unsanitary at the moment," explained Higgins. Volunteer updateFood for Life Global, based in New York, is coordinating more volunteers to arrive soon from Slovenia, South Africa, Mexico, USA, and Canada over the next few weeks. "Our goal is to set up kitchens in government controlled and secured camps in Haiti," explains International Director, Paul Turner. People that have applied to volunteer for the Food for Life Global mission will be contacted as our operation becomes more stable. At the moment, we are in need of more money to fund these efforts. We have been able to secure good sources for food in Santo Domingo, however, in some cases prices are high. On top of this, transportation costs will most likely be substantial over a long period of time. Please continue to support Food for Life Global

Global: Sea Shepherd E-news - Operation Waltzing Matilda

Subject: Sea Shepherd E-news - Operation Waltzing Matilda
Ady Gil rammed 600
Sea Shepherd E-Newsletter
Defending Ocean Wildlife Worldwide
January 28, 2010

Greetings!

We are 52 days into our 6th Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign, Operation Waltzing Matilda, and the Steve Irwin is in need of emergency helicopter repairs, fuel, and provisions.  We are returning to Fremantle for 48 hours only, starting Thursday, January 28th.  Despite these obstacles and with your continued support, I am confident that we will once again be able to return to the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary and diminish kill quotas and save the lives of hundreds of whales.  In fact, our newest ship, the Bob Barker, continues to pursue the Japanese whaling fleet in the Antarctic right now. With two Sea Shepherd ships, the whaling fleet can be kept on the run by one vessel while the other resupplies.

In this e-news, I have updates about our efforts to save whales in the Southern Ocean and an exciting announcement about our next campaign. Please continue to stand with us -- Sea Shepherd is the only direct action organization on the frontlines, intervening to defend ocean wildlife.

Rammed Vessel Ady Gil Sinks
Ady Gill rammed The Sea Shepherd vessel Ady Gil's short-lived voyage began on December 19th out of Hobart. Seventeen days later, the Ady Gil was on the bottom under 3,000 meters of water after the Japanese whaling vessel Shonan Maru No. 2 deliberately rammed and destroyed the Ady Gil, cutting our interceptor vessel in two on January 6th. Click to read the full article or watch the video.

Your support is appreciated to help us keep this campaign going!

Bob Barker-- Come on Down!
After months of secret planning and provisions, our newest vessel, Bob Barker, successfully surprised and confronted the Japanese whaling fleet on January 6th.  This long-range, fast, ice-class ship will take the lead in harassing the Japanese fleet and will be able to stay at sea for three solid months without refueling. Click here to find out more.

Ships are Expendable, Species are Not
Announcing Our Mediterranean Bluefin Tuna Campaign

After Operation Waltzing Matilda has ended, both Sea Shepherd ships, the Steve Irwin and the Bob Barker, will head for the Mediterranean to intercept and oppose the illegal operations of Bluefin tuna poachers!

This is a crucial year in the battle to save the Bluefin tuna, because populations are within three years of total collapse but blue fin tunawe think there's still time. In Europe, political corruption is standing in the way of banning the export of these endangered fish to Japan, where the demand is very high.

Furthermore, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) meets in March to debate banning trade in the Bluefin. We intend to bring as much attention to this epidemic as possible and stop the illegal poaching operations that have reduced this species to the brink of extinction.

Learn more about our campaign plans...

Sea Shepherd works hard to maximize your donations, so that we can be as effective as possible in our mission. We will work rapidly, but frugally and carefully, to get the Steve Irwin prepared to leave port in just 2 short days. We will then rejoin the Bob Barker and continue to stop the Japanese from killing the great whales. You keep our ships at sea. You are our lifeblood. Please consider offering your continued support today.

Thank-you.

Los Angeles: Desperate for New Foster or Permanent Homes by this Monday, 2/1 for these 5 Sweet Gal Kitts. Rescued from South LA this summer and Now Need a Place to Go...THANKS!

Stacy Robbins wrote:

This past summer we rescued scores of redlisted cats from the South L.A. Shelter.  Some had sniffles and some were so terrified that they hissed when anyone came near.  Regardless, each was deemed unworthy of living another day outside the shelter :(  Placing cats nowadays is near impossible, but we found an angel who allowed us to use the new home she had yet to move into as a temporary cattery.  Thanks to her kindness we found homes for all but 5 cats.  Unfortunately, our time is up.  We need to find foster or permanent homes for these cats by Monday, February 1, as tenting and construction are due to begin!!!

Please, please, please...if you or anyone you know can foster or provide a permanent home for one of these loverbugs please contact stacy robbins at stacyarobbins@hotmail.com mary tonden at mgrapestond@gmail.com.

take a look at the sweet residents of the cat house of south LA.:

Tomato the Cuddlemonster!!!!:

[Tomato2.jpg]

Who doesn't love a Tortie? Tomato is an adorable snugglebutt of a girl with the sweetest meow you will ever hear! Her favorite thing to do is to sit in the window and watch the world outside. She is a very calm kitty who will happily watch you do what you need to do, but will love to sleep and cuddle with you as soon as you have the time. She gets along well with other cats.

Tomato is another rescue from the South L.A. Shelter. We have all fallen in love with her since she moved into the cattery this past summer. Could you you have room in your life for ten pounds of cuddly love?

Socks the Supermodel!!!

How pretty is Socks?!?!?! It was quite a task to choose just one picture of this stunner as she is quite the photogenic kitty. That's why I had to post two :) She is the textbook perfect Tuxedo with the most beautiful, expressive eyes and pristine pink paws.

She was saved from the overcrowded South L.A. Shelter this summer and now lives with the other kitts you see here. She is such a sweetheart!!! While she has acclimated nicely to life in the South L.A. Cat House, she really, really wants some one on one time with someone who loves her. That won't be a problem as you won't have to do more than meet her to fall head over heels for this black and white beauty :)

Tomeka the glamourpuss...

Tomeka is a luxurious 10-pound long haired calico girlie kitt rescued from the South L.A. Shelter in July. This beautiful kitt is far too glamorous for shelter life and wants nothing more than a window sill and human to call her own. She's a quiet, pensive girl who won't bother or fuss at you when you are busy. But as soon as you settle down for a moment and provide her with a solid lap, she'll be right on you!

Sexy Sadie

Ms. Sadie is a luscious black and white cat who we rescued from the South L.A. Shelter this past August with her 6 kittens. Remember that week when the temp soared over 100-degrees while the Station Fire roared out of control? Well, that was the week we saved Sadie.

She is a great big, sleek cat with markings that would make Matisse purr...a true minimalist kitt with gorgeous emerald eyes. She is a bundle of love and a chatterbox. While she enjoys alpha kitt status, she gets along well with other cats. Her best friends in the cattery were fellow South L.A. rescues Carrie and Suzy, both of whom were lucky enough to find their own homes. We just hope Sadie is lucky enough to find a home of her own!!!

If you take Sadie home with you, you can kiss your lonely nights (and mornings and afternoons) goodbye. She is no shrinking violet and will happily share your couch and your life...and be forever grateful :)

Jill the Sweetlingtons!!!

We resucued Jill, a perfect 8-year-old tuxedo girlie from the South L.A. Annex this past July.  She had been turned in by her owner and the shelter deemed her feral as she was traumatized at having been adondoned and taken from the only home she had even known :(  She developed a URI and eye infection at the shelter and we were asked to decide if she was worth rescuing and treating.  Are you kidding me???  Of course she was!!!  Unfortunately, her eye infection ended up costing her partial sight in her right eye.  Jill is a chatty girl who needs a special home with a patient angel.  Once she learns to trust you, she won't let you go!!!  She loves it when you pet her and let her know that once again she is loved.

Below is the plea I sent out a couple of weeks ago on Katie, an amazing 4 yr. old Staffie at East Valley .  She was green listed for a very brief time but SHE’S BACK ON RED, so her time is limited.  Please view the video below that was made last Sunday, 1/24 and you will see the calm energy this lovely lady has and the sadness in her face.   Below is the chip-in account link as well.

Please, we must save this girl - CONTACT EAST VALLEY 818-756-9323 and speak with a supervisor or SPEAK WITH VERONICA PERRY, NEW HOPE COORDINATOR AT 213-435-9152.

Katie is a gorgeous, blue/white lady with lovely brown eyes, and an old soul.   She has a captivating face, and such a calm energy, she’s affectionate, likes to be close to you, doesn’t bark, sits by the kennel door, waiting.  Is good on the leash, came in with her sister who was adopted.  Katie does not react to the other dogs when walking past them, she’s very people oriented, men, women, children, doesn’t matter.  She is friendly to other dogs, wags her tail when she sees them, or doesn’t react at all.   She seems to be unconcerned with the noise and barking, aware but not overly curious -  she’s around 45-50 lb.  I love her, she’s a dog you want to hug and she let’s you!!

LILY REALLY WANTS HER OWN HOME ALREADY!

A sweet dog with a very sad heart :(

My name is Lily. I am a Beagle/Lab mix approximately 6 years old, healthy , house broken, and FULL of life. I have spent most of my life in a shelter or foster care being adopted once to only then be returned because my home no longer had time for me.
>
I love to go on adventures like walks, car rides, and meeting new people. I love stuffed animals and LOVE playing ball. I am SO tired of being in a shelter and I just want a forever home.  I dream about a soft warm bed, I dream about walks and car rides, only to wake up and realize I am still one of so many dogs looking for a home.  I'm starting to loose hope, maybe I am meant to be homeless forever.    I have much love to give and I cannot understand why the right person hasn't came along for me. Are you the one?
>
I have been spayed, recently vaccinated, & heart worm negative.  I am very friendly , but do not however care for female dogs.  There is only one diva and you are looking at her.

Please help me.
