New Orleans LA: Donations needed ASAP for Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter

The Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter (LA) is currently out of wet kitten food (any brand), cat litter (does not matter brand or type like clumping, anything will be appreciated), & Clorox bleach (must be Clorox due to their procedures dealing with concentration & mixing or they cannot use it).  Both Eastbank & Westbank shelters are in need.

There is a budget issue which is currently being worked on, BUT we don't want the animals to suffer in the mean time.

Please forward to everyone you know in the area.

The eastbank shelter is located at 1 Humane Way, New Orleans - (504) 736-6111.
The westbank shelter is located at 1869 Ames Boulevard, Marrero - (504) 349-5111

The shelters do not open till 9 AM Tuesday but workers will be there at 6 AM to start working.
They will need all of these supplies when they start working at 6 AM.  Supplies can be dropped off starting now outside the shelter.  The workers will be very appreciative in the morning if they have supplies & so will the animals!

Let me know if anyone has any questions!

Thanks so much!

Hi Karl,

Could you pls cross-post this fellow. It's worth a chance. Sorry for the delay but they were trying to trace the owner.

This is "Haliba" or just good ole "Hal."  He's an exceptionally nice neutered, 8-year-old male Chow (mix?).
He is impounded as a stray in the Fremont, CA municipal shelter and he needs a new home or rescue ASAP

HALIBA - ID#A095382

My name is HALIBA.

I am a neutered male, gold & cream Chow Chow (Mix?)

The shelter staff think I am about 8 years old.

I have been at the shelter since May 20, 2010.

This information is less than 1 hour old.

From the AC Officer -

This boy was really easy to bring into the shelter as he is very kind and trusting. He has an AVID chip that goes no where but it does state his name and age.The finder told the officer that "Haliba" kept on following her everywhere she went. She gave the dog a bed for the evening, and he gratefully slept soundly. He also appears to be potty trained. The dog cames to her when she called him "Mr. Chow". The finder has a young daughter and an older dog about the same size and that did not present any problem at all. Haliba was very cooperative and patient with me when I was checking him, scanning him, and while waiting for me while I was on the phone with AVID and the leads I was given.

He's a very mellow and handsome fellow, and except for the rear end hair loss (which will be vet checked this week and is probably a  very treatable condition), he appears to be in very good health.

He would be a great companion for an someone that wants a gentle new family member who just wants a place to call home with someone to love him and be loved in return. He's a treasure that needs just a little TLC to really shine.

Global: I'm against Discovery Channel abusing bats

"A recent episode of Discovery Channel's Man vs. Wild featured Bear Grylls gleefully killing bats with a homemade club. The clip, which shows Grylls throwing a flame in a cave to "smoke out" the bats, swatting them to the ground and then stomping on them, has aired internationally and been posted on YouTube, allowing for continued access. Please help us spread the word against the abuse of bats."

PLEASE CROSSPOST RESPONSIBLY, NO CRAIGS LIST OR LIKE

Hello everyone,

I have an urgent situation that needs immediate attention.  We have a local resident that has a 5yr old neutered male pure bred chow.  She has lost her home and had to move into an apartment.  She could not take her baby.  She contacted us to help her find him a good home.  In the meantime, she had a "friend" that was able to care for him until we could place him.  She called my hysterical last night.  She went to check on her baby, and the poor thing had no water (in all this heat, with that big fur coat he has). His water bowl was starting to rust, so god knows how long it has been since it was full.  I have no where to put him, my fosters are overwhelmed.  I even have one I am paying to kennel.  We cannot afford another kennel.  He is VERY sweet, housebroken, good with kids, dogs, and cats.  I need to place him immediately, either into a foster home or a reputible rescue.  He does need to be brought up to date with his vaccines.

I can arrange for discount vetting and can assist with transport.

Please contact me directly,
Chrissy Foreman

The first is to sign a petition to help stop sexual predators from driving public transportation.  A 12 yo boy here was enticed on facebook by whom it thought was a school girlfriend to come out and meet her...she said she would send a taxi to pick him up....that taxi driver was a predator pretending to be the little girl...Justin died at the hands of this predator...we need to protect our children with stronger penaties and exempt them from certain employment opportunities, such as driving taxis, busses, and limos....Justin would have been 13 years old yesterday...Please go to the link and sign our petition!!!
The other is the All Star Rescue Challenge for $100,000 dollars...please vote for my favorite rescue...the RISPCA in Rhode Island...they were quick to help us twice during hurricane relief efforts and Doc made a special trip down here to work with the livestock situation that we had....lets show our support and vote to take them to the top!

Kaplan LA: URGENT- PTS any time: Beautiful dogs and puppies

Marie-Françoise Bossard Sat, May 29, 2010 at 8:51 PM
PLEASE CROSS POST
Hi all,
THANK YOU to every one who helped with the most recent crisis at the Kaplan pound: that is that the Parish Police Jury decided to strictly enforce their rule: PETS ARE TO BE KEPT 4 DAYS, THEN KILLED (in the gas chamber), EVEN if there are empty kennels.
Those pets who have a rescue group committed to them may be kept alive a LITTLE longer.
It is very difficult for us to hold a pet or bring it to you. We don't have a facility, and everybody is asking us to transport dogs to them: we are a tiny organization and our people resources are very limited!!!!!! If you would like to rescue one of these dogs, please contact us ASAP and try to make arrangements for the transport. Please visit http://members.petfinder.com/~LA26/rescue_groups.html for more info.
If you are interested in a pet, please act fast! The gas chamber is available at any time and the police jury wants to enforce their 4 day rule.
Do not suggest you will take a pet, and not do it.
It hurts the pets (it may actually get them killed), it hurts our relationship with the pound and they may kill those pets who have a rescue group pending to come (remember... they DID IT last December!)

If you cannot see the pets in this e-mail, go to:
http://members.petfinder.com/~LA26/available_pets.html

If you would like to see the cats, go to http://members.petfinder.com/~LA26/cats_kittens_kaplan_pound.htm

FIRST ONES ON THE LIST TO GO IN THE GAS CHAMBER!!!
NO rescue group has shown any interest in these dogs and there are in GREAT DANGER. PLEASE HELP THEM!

Kaplan LA: PTS ANY TIME - Beautiful CATS & KITTENS

Marie-Françoise Bossard Sat, May 29, 2010 at 8:26 PM
Hi all,

PLEASE CROSS POST

These cats and kittens are at the Kaplan pound, Vermilion Parish, in South Louisiana.
Because the Kaplan pound does not have an adoption program to the public and keeps pets only 4 days
before killing them in a gas chamber, rescue groups are the ONLY way out alive for the pets there.

If you think you can help by taking some of these cats, please call the pound (337-643-3160) ASAP to let them
know NOT to hurt these cats and e-mail Animal Aid for Vermilion Area

THANKS FOR CARING!
IF YOU CANNOT SEE THE PICTURES, PLEASE GO TO
http://members.petfinder.com/~LA26/cats_kittens_kaplan_pound.htm

NOTE: We placed ALL the info we have on this page. All we know is some of the cats' names. We have NO additional info. Sorry...
