CONCERNING HALFWAY HOME PET ADOPTIONS IN KCMO and Friends of Halfway Home Pet Adoptions:
1)  Please join us for CHARITY BINGO at Hamburger Mary's (101 Southwest Blvd KCMO
64108     (816) 842-1919   Funds will go to FRIENDS OF HALFWAY HOME to help pay for Heartworm treatments, pull fees for animals going to rescue etc.  If you're not able to make it, but would like to make a donation, please go to www.FriendsOfHalfwayHome.com
2)  If you or others would like to be included on the new Urgent CATS email we're starting (as we've been neglecting the felines in need at Halfway Home), please send a quick email to adoption.team@hotmail.com.
3)  Volunteer training is this Saturday at 10am - We need MANY more volunteers in order to be able to walk all of the dogs that are now overflowing each day. If you can even spare an hour or two each week, please join us at orientation so you can then volunteer any day(s) of the week your schedule allows.
4) Finally, the KCMO shelter is completely BEYOND CAPACITY!! So many animals are being DUMPED each day that they can't keep up! We have almost 40 dogs more than we are normally supposed to hold and need rescue assistance NOW!!!. If we don't get dogs moved, we will have no other choice but to put dogs down for space!!!!  I am begging rescue groups, potential adopters and fosters to come through so some dogs can go to safety!!  There are so many wonderfully sweet dogs at the shelter right now  waiting for YOU and your acquaintances to save them!!  BIOS AND MORE INFO can be seen at www.HalfwayHomePets.com
---PLEASE, WE HAVE REDUCED PULL FEES FOR RESCUE GROUPS---
Basic:$30
Vaccs - DA2PP and Rabies  and a  Health Certificate
Full package:$45
Spay/Neuter;   Vaccs -DA2PP and Rabies ;  HW check ;  Health Certificate
These are only SOME of the MANY dogs we have at the KCMO shelter!!! For more animals visit www.halfwayhomepets.com!!!
SEE PHOTO:  Please help these Shar Peis. They are at the KCMO shelter and it is not the place for them! They where dumped here by someone who "CLAIMED" they found them. I'm sure these dogs where owned by the family who dropped them off.
They seem to be around 2-3yrs old. Both, as you can see, have a skin problem, but seem pretty happy.  We would like to keep them together, they really love each other.
PLEASE CROSS-POST WIDELY-- WE ARE IN SOS MODE!!!

(TYLER NASISE is unavailable to evaluate him/her because he is taking care of his Mother in hospice and cannot go to visit the dog. In view of the time crunch emergency, Tyler does suggest a practical step would be, "if someone can evaluate her and maybe raise funds to get her into boarding before AC is called in. Hopefully another rescue will step up." Click on photos for larger views. Thank you. Liz)

Bcc, please cross post.  We'll have a better picture soon but wanted to get this out ASAP.  This guy has been left alone for a while – exactly how long is hard to tell but the electricity has been off for 5 months.  The Realtor reports that the dog is aggressive but we are not sure if it is due to being scared and alone or has an aggression problem.  We would like to find out first before contacting Animal Control as we know how that would end.  Need someone who is an expert with Pits to help out.  I'll be the contact.

Dear Friends,

We have exciting news!  Tonight, 9/30/10, "Issues: With Jane Velez-Mitchell" will be covering the PA pigeon shoot issue. Please read the alert and watch tonight!

The following news release was sent out today by freeanimalvideo.org

TONIGHT: Animal Activist and Television Host Jane Velez-Mitchell will expose the October 3 Pigeon Shoot in PA thanks to SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness).

Please set your recorders and share the news so that this segment earns great ratings. Good ratings on these animal stories encourage places like CNN to do more animal protection stories!

If you know reporters that might be interested in carrying the story, there is information below and FREE video (courtesy of Sharkonline.org) they can use HERE!

Activists travel to Pennsylvania almost every week to attend the pigeon shoots and document the event. They point out that Pennsylvania's Animal Cruelty Law, Title 18, section 5511, prohibits a person from wantonly or cruelly ill-treating or abusing any animal. The law also prohibits neglect, abandonment, and deprivation of food, drink, shelter, or veterinary care. Pigeon shoots violate every one of these prohibitions. All of the information including videos can be downloaded below or at PigeonShoots.com.

Pigeon shoots are competitions wherein hundreds to thousands of live birds are shot at to win prizes. A typical 3-day shoot contest can kill and injure up to 15,000 birds. The next canned pigeon shoot event is scheduled for October 3, 2010.

The pigeons are captured and collected for weeks ahead of time, then released from trap boxes only yards away from the so-called "sportsmen". The birds are generally dazed and suffering from dehydration or starvation as they are sprung out of the boxes.

Rather than mercifully being given a quick death, 70% of the birds are injured when shot and either left to suffer slow deaths or collected and killed by pigeon shoot "trapper boys" or "wringers", traditionally children, who break their necks, step on them, tear off wings, suffocate them, or cut off their heads with garden shears, among other abuses.

Pigeon shoots are nothing more than a vile excuse for entertainment for the dull-witted or psychopathic. Illegal in other countries and in all but a couple of American states, most people realize the despicable nature of these bird-killing contests.

Activists vow to take the war against Pennsylvania's remaining live pigeon shoots directly to the people, aided by a $1 million gift from former television personality Bob Barker.

Legislation is pending in both the Pennsylvania House and Senate (H.B. 1411/S.B. 843) to ban the killing of animals launched for trap shoots or tied in place for block shoots. Activists say: Vote YES on H.B. 1411/S.B. 843 to stop live animal shoots.

Dear Liz,
Over the past week and a half, I've been telling you about our matching gift offer and the work we're doing to win protections for nearly 4 million acres of land in a dozen states.
Now, I have some great news. Our campaign was so inspiring that another generous donor has come forward with an additional $25,000 in matching funds to help win protections for this wild land.
Thank you,

Hi Kathy -- I've been watching the emails you've sent about your wilderness campaign and I wanted to do my part. I understand that Congress will be adjourning in a week, and we really need to get these bills passed before then if we want to get these lands protected. I can give another $25,000 to this campaign, but I'm counting on the WildAlert community to match it.
Back in May, I think I told you about my wonderful experience in Alaska -- a 4 day float trip down the Copper River. I've had many other wonderful wilderness experiences in Colorado, Utah and California. America was blessed with vast lands which are quickly being developed. The thought of lands set aside for future generations in National Parks and Wilderness has become a passion of mine. The wonderful prospect of another 4 million acres of wild lands being permanently protected is so exciting. Everyone has worked so hard to bring these bills to this stage. I hope these funds will help the Wilderness Society push these bills through Congress. I also hope other wilderness lovers across the country will help by matching these funds.

These 2 wonderful cats have been at the shelter WAY TOO LONG!  Their time would have been up long ago if we hadn't been networking them, but no one has come for them.  Their lilac point beautiful sister was adopted today, but these 2 still need out!  Don't let them die just because they are not fancy cats!

One of our great rescue partners, Diane with Buster's Angels Rescue in Magnolia, who has taken in stray Gleannloch dogs in the past, now needs our help.  Her husband recently died and she finds herself having to move out of their home immediately.
She has 5 super cute rescue doggies she needs to place.  These are dogs that she rescued from bad situations, paid their vet bills and got them all ready for new homes.  All of them are up to date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed/neutered and have a microchip.
Please contact Diane at bustersnana114@yahoo.com if you'd like further information on any of these cuties or forward this onto any contacts who might be interested.
Thank you!

Hello Cheryl.
I wouldn't call them feral, just shy.
2 of them can be coaxed over and there is a kitten just like the gray/white one in the image and the cute little black one with white feet will let you pet her. They are jumpy that's all.
They belonged to the former occupant of the front unit but they have left them.
I have attached images of 2 of them.
There is another black one that is very shy and the kitten looks just like the gray one in the image. The gray one you can see here is very scraggly and weak and I think he is sick.
So sad, please help.

This boy is very sweet, but very timid, scared, shy and sad - probably in shock as well.  I took him out for a woman and her elderly Mom on Sunday, but he was almost frozen, so he didn’t show well, poor guy.   Honestly I cannot remember if he was an owner surrender or not, if he was it would explain his sadness and confusion, not understanding why he isn’t in his home any more - and he definitely was in a home - he’s clean, and well groomed, not matted or sgrally (is that a word?) looking, as are some dogs who REALLY are strays - unlike those that are turned in OTC and people SAY they’re strays….yeah, right.  Although even a lot of the dogs that are owner surrender appear as though they’ve never seen a comb or brush in their lives!!

PLEASE cross-post and help Sweet Baby Ray find a home.  Contact Veronica Perry, New Hope Coordinator directly at 213-435-9152.  Thanks for your help.
