Hi Liz,He is still trying to find a home and I would love for you to post him, he is in Lancaster, ca. Thanks for all of your help!

No we are still looking for a home for him. Luckily my aunt has stepped up and let him hang out at her place the last couple of weeks while we look but he really needs to find a permanent home ASAP.
He is such a sweet dog and would be a great pet for anyone!
JESSICA'S EARLIEST POST:
I found Cooper two days ago, he was abandoned in the desert and close to starving. I have taken him into the vet they say he seems healthy aside from having about 5-10 pounds to gain. I had him vaccinated and de-wormed as well. He is about 2 years old, 45 pounds, very very sweet. The vet says he is a Cattle Dog/Pit mix. He is crate trained and potty trained from what I've seen so far, he is friendly with all the dogs we meet including my two small dogs, he is friendly to all the people we meet, did great at the vet with all the poking and prodding and is incredibly affectionate with my husband and I.

I need someone to take him ASAP, my landlord will only let me have the two dogs and has given me until next week to find Cooper a new home. This is a great dog that deserves way better than what he has gotten out of life so far. I do not want to have to take him to the pound next weekend, it would break my heart. Please if you have room to take in Cooper or know of someone I could contact who might be able to help, let me know. I am completely willing to drive him anywhere within 5-6 hours of Lancaster, ca.
I appreciate your help,

Jessica

GA & IN: SSP wins a $25,000 grant for spay & neuter

From: Saving Shelter Pets <mailinglist@savingshelterpets.com>
Date: Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 11:55 AM
Subject: SSP wins a $25,000 grant for spay & neuter

Saving Shelter Pets Inc Newsletter

Last month, supporters from across the United States banded together to help Saving Shelter Pets win a $25,000 grant for their spay & neuter program through the Pepsi Refresh contest. The grant contest, sponsored by PepsiCo, distributes over $1 million a month to ideas which have a positive impact on their community. Each month, a few hundred grant proposals are selected for a total of 4 categories, with award winners based on the number of online votes each idea receives. After 2 months in the running, Saving Shelter Pets was able to finish in 7th place at the end of November, securing $25,000 in funding for their spay & neuter work in Murray County, Georgia.

Chatsworth, Georgia (and the surrounding area of Murray County) is an economically depressed area where the local animal shelter is forced to euthanize many healthy pets each week due to pet over-population. Saving Shelter Pets aims to significantly reduce the number of unwanted cats and dogs by proactively addressing the problem at its source: a large population of unaltered cats and dogs.

With the $25,000 grant funding from Pepsi, Saving Shelter Pets will host a low-cost spay & neuter clinic each month in 2011. The clinics will assist low-income families in fixing their personal pets at an affordable cost. In addition to low-cost clinics, the grant funding will provide at least one free clinic for feral and/or domestic cats, one free clinic for pitbulls, and will help supplement the funding needed to fix additional cats and dogs through the
Puppy Promises program (also based in Murray County).

This spay & neuter work for 2011 will not only reduce intake numbers at the local animal shelter by preventing future litters from being born; it will also help to educate the community on responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay & neuter. Stay tuned for updates on individual clinics!

Saving Shelter Pets would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to their volunteers, supporters, friends, family, and other participating grant groups who voted last month to make this grant win possible!
