Brooklyn NYC NY: Orphan FIV+ Tabby Toby needs a home or at least a foster

 to    FIVCats@yahoogroups.com
date    Wed, Feb 23, 2011 at 7:34 AM
Hi, everyone,

This is about a street cat that my wife and I have been feeding for the last 8 months. We call him Toby. He is a young (under 2 years) tabby cat with a pair of beautiful eyes and slim graceful body.

A few weeks ago we discovered that Toby had a wound on his leg and took him to the vet. While the wound turned out to be nothing serious, Toby was found to be an FIV positive.

Having 4 cats of our own and a bunch of others on the block that we feed we could not take him in or release to the street. He spent 2 weeks by the vet, was neutered, vaccinated and recovered from his wound.

We could not keep him there longer and yesterday took him to the boarding place where he is being kept in the isolated cage in the basement.

Toby is good with people, but does not like being with the other cats. We hope that he may find a home, where he can be a single cat or that his behavior can be modified and he can share a place with the other FIV positive cats.

Maybe someone is willing to take him in foster care? Maybe there other suggestions?

Toby is young and can live a long and happy life, but now being locked in the basement he is not happy at all.

Thank you for any help and/or any advice. We live in Brooklyn, NY and hope to find a place locally, but for the right solution we would go outside of the New York area.

Thank you,

Gila, Gregory and Toby

Hi, everyone,

Last week we sent out a message about Toby - an FIV+ cat who is currently looking for a home.

Thanks to all of you who responded to our first message with the words of support and recommendations. Unfortunately so far we did not make any progress. The places we contacted do not want to take an FIV+ cat. The only one that does - TheTabby's Place, can only put him on a waiting list for the next year or two. This how long the waiting time is. We sent them an application, but it even does not guarantee that he would be considered to be placed on the list - too many applicants.

Meanwhile Toby's living conditions did not improve much. He is still in the cage, confined to a very limited space. Toby is a young cat, he is full of life and it is very hard for him not to be able to leave his "solitary confinement".

So, once again we are asking everybody who belong to FIVCats to help Toby. Foster care or adoption is what he needs.

We thank you all,

Gila, Gregory and Toby

Sitting, waiting, hoping......... time passing in Jackson Co., WV!

The Shelter is getting crowded, and NO ONE has said they will save even one.  Please don't let these good dogs and puppies be killed.  Anywhere but WV, these dogs would be snapped up.  The rescues that have taken them before found them homes right away. They are highly adoptable, and will make one of your adopters an amazing companion.

PLEASE save these babies. If you have not worked with JCAS before just email the email contact on the post and ask for a shelter to rescue app and they will send it right out to you.

Maxwell is young, playful and full of life.  The only potential adopter he's had wanted to tie him outside to be a "watchdog."  He deserves better.   Help him live!

Maximus URGENT!

Black Labrador Retriever
Dog
Status: Adoptable
Size: L Age: Adult Gender: M
17892119
Notes:
Maximus is a lab mix who came to the shelter on 11/19 as a stray. Not a lot is known about him, but he seems to be friendly and did well as one of the volunteers began training with him on a leash. He's about 50 pounds and seems to be a very healthy fella. He's between 2-3 years old and is hoping not to be an apartment dweller but to have a place outside to run and play. He says he'll be a good boy if someone will give him the love and companionship that he needs.
UPDATE: Maximus was rescued, but getting him to Chicago in the winter has proved too much. He is waiting for his forever home while his fosterer is working with him. He's a very smart fella and learns quickly. He loves chasing tennis balls and never tires of the game. He likes people and is playing nicely with her little beagle dogs. Maximus needs a home NOW, and hopefully someone a little closer will make this boy part of their family.

This pet is: already house trained
Notes:
Brutus and Bear are only 3 to 4 months old. They haven't been taught to lead, but they will scratch on the door to go outside to potty. These boys are good with cats, dogs, and children, even babies. They weigh about 20 pounds each and are very playful dogs, especially enjoying playing outside. Brutus has more white on him than Bear, but both boys are great-looking dogs. Jill

Australian Shepherd
Dog
Status: Adoptable
Size: M Age: Baby Gender: F
18659386
Notes:
Jill is an 8 week old Aussie mix. She weighs about 10 pounds and has greenish-brown eyes. She likes toys and especially likes for someone to play with her. She really likes chasing a ball. She was brought in as a stray, but who would let this little girl get away from them? Or did they? It is hard to believe someone might dump a sweet girl like Jill. She seems smart, and it would be fun to watch her and teach her and play with her. Jill may be the life-long best friend and companion you've been wishing for! Contact: Jackson County Animal Shelter

Maxwell

Yellow Labrador Retriever, Boxer Mixed
Dog
Status: Adoptable
Size: L Age: Adult Gender: M

Notes:
Maxwell is a solid white lab/boxer mix. He is about 1 year old and weighs about 30 pounds. His brown eyes are a sharp contrast to his white coat. Maxwell has a boo-boo on his head at the moment, which is being treated and will be gone soon. This boy loves attention and treats, which makes him easily trainable. He came to the shelter as a stray, but he needs a forever home. Maxwell would love to live at your house. Contact: Jackson County Animal Shelter

Nakita is an Australian shepherd and lab mix female about 3 years old. She was brought to the shelter as a surrender because the family couldn't afford to keep her and her babies. Cosmo & Candy

Australian Shepherd, Boxer Mixed
Dog
Status: Adoptable
Size: L Age: Baby Gender: F

Notes:
Cosmo is the only male in the family of four that belong to Nakita. Candy is one of his three sisters. Their mother is Australian shepherd/lab mix and their father is a boxer. These little guys are about 9 weeks old and very playful. Cosmo is mostly brown and pretty laid back with pretty brown eyes. Candy has more white, checks out everything in sight, and has one blue and one brown eye. They weigh about 10 pounds now but could stand to put on some weight. They are getting plenty of good food so they can grow big and strong! These little guys are adorable and you'd love watching them romp and play! Contact: Jackson County Animal Shelter

Clover & Cassy

Australian Shepherd, Boxer Mixed
Dog
Status: Adoptable
Size: L Age: Baby Gender: F

Notes:
Clover and Cassy are two of the four pups of Nakita, both girls. Clover is black and white, the only one of this color in the litter, and Cassy is brown and white with a black mask. Their momma is Australian shepherd and lab and their father is a boxer. These babies are 9 weeks old now and are very playful. They weigh about 10 pounds and could stand to gain a little weight. They are sweet, playful, wiggly puppies, and they would love to have forever homes. You'd be entertained and get lots of puppy kisses, too, if you had one of these little tykes in your home. Status: Adoptable

Notes:
Sally is only about a year old and is a nice-looking girl! She is a pretty chestnut color with white feet, chest, neck and nose. She was brought in as a stray and weighs about 40 pounds. When Sally isn't so nervous, her tail will curl over her back. Apparently Sally is used to being outside, for she has her winter coat on. But Sally wouldn't mind curling up inside beside her master's recliner or stretching out by the family fireplace. She loves attention. Is there a place for Sally in your home?
