Subject: SENIOR CHOW GIRL IN GARLAND
Okay – Here’s the latest on the old Chow gal from Garland. Anne and I have named her Whisper, because she is a very gentle and quiet soul. I talked with Jay about it and he’s agreed to just let me keep her. I can do that as long as I can get some financial donations to help with her vetting. VERY sad scene at the shelter. The ACO, Adrian, carried her out to Anne’s car and she was too weak to even hold her head up. It just hung down as if she were dead. She wants to stand and walk, but isn’t able to do it for long without stumbling. The 2 steps I have for her to potty outside are a real event for her. She is sleeping comfortably in her crate right now, and I have the door open so she can come out if she wishes. She’s crated in my home office where I can keep a close eye on her at all times. She loves to be petted, but her skin is VERY oily, and smelly, so probably demodex mange. Can’t be sure though until vet visit. Her eyesight is minimal, and she is deaf. She has labored breathing which may be a result of severe heartworms, but I can’t be sure until Blood work is done. She can only take a few steps without almost falling, and stumbling to the side. VERY wobbly. She throws up bile looking vomit after walking a short distance. Peeing and Pooping good, though pee is a little dark colored. Ate some canned food this evening, but threw up undigested food from the shelter this afternoon. I have her on mild pain pills to help with her discomfort until I can get her to the vet. Anne gave her a little doggy biscuit, and she immediately put it in her paws, and licked it. Then she buried it in her mound of blankets. It was very cute. Like she was so happy to have something of her own, and have blankets to cover it with.
Please spread the word on any possible donations. I will not be able to foster her here and will need to send her to Jay’s if I have to cover the vet bills myself, and I hate to ask for help, but don’t have a choice at this time. With Angel the sick pit bull, and Zeppelin, the senior Chow, and now Whisper, I am maxed out and more. My paypal account is same as my email –
gmcmichael@verizon.net
I am going to try and get her to the vet tomorrow, or Friday. I’ll have them do blood work, and look at the cyst on her front leg. (See pics) I’ll have them do skin scrapings for mange, a fecal, HW test and anything else the vet needs to assess her condition. I’ll keep everyone updated on her condition, and will try to do weekly updates at first.
Thanks to all of you that offered transport, bathing, boarding, moral support, well wishes and prayers, and everything for Whisper. She is a special girl and didn’t deserve to die on a cold hard floor in the shelter. And let’s all keep in mind that this girl would be DEAD RIGHT NOW if Jay & Ricky at Smiling Dog Farms had not allowed me to pull her under their rescue. They help so many, and please keep them in mind for donations, or become a monthly donor. You can find that info at
www.smilingdogfarms.com.
There are a couple of people that have expressed interest in possible future adoption but they are up North, and Whisper cannot travel right now. She would never hold up for a trip like that. So, if all goes well, and we can get her back on her feet, we will look at those options in the future.

3/30/11 GOOD NEWS!!!
Thank You!
Thank you, everyone, for working so hard to help this old gal get to safety.
She has been picked up from the shelter and is in no danger of being euthed.
She is going to spend some time in her temporary foster
to evaluate whether she is well enough to transport.
We have a good friend who had offered to put her up in boarding overnight,
and then even drive her tomorrow to Centerville!
And many more of you have offered to drive her on different days.
I promise to keep all of you informed about this girl.
Once the decision is made about her viability to travel,
we will ask you again for help on transport.
The most important thing is that she is safe...
Thank you all for your kind offers to help.
I will be back in touch about transport, when we know more.

Subject: CHOW - A147891 - STILL AT SHELTER - NO RESCUE TAGS
Hello,
Just talked to Adrian and this girl is still there and will be available to RESCUE only tomorrow.
Vet is estimating her age as about 12, is blind and arthritic but said she doesn't have mange??? She is eating and has normal fecal.
So who knows what her skin condition is but she needs OUT -
Thanks,
