Zena has been at the shelter the longest, patiently waiting for someone to help her.  For the first week at the shelter she would bounce out to greet you wagging her tail wildly for some attention.  I noticed yesterday, she has lost some of her zest and I am sure is depressed as people continue to walk by and never choose her. :(  She is a great young dog, highly adoptable and a nice med size.  Please can someone make room for her?

Romeo's owner was hospitalized and they were waiting for the family to reclaim, but he popped up on my urgent list yesterday so it is time for him to go.  He is a lovely sweet boy.

Roxy is a sad little thing.  The first pic is when she came into the shelter and the pic says it all.  Yesterday, we cut off her collar and she really blossomed.  She is still very scared, and clearly has been abused as she flinches every time you touch her.  But yesterday she allowed us to walk her around on a leash, and even when we dropped the leash she would still follow.  She loves other dogs and that was the only time we saw her tail come out from under her was to wag at another dog, and she would vocalize to them too, sort of a little cry/whine to play with her.  You can see the wound under her neck from the collar, it is superficial and not deep.  So lucky for her she was "lost" just in time from her life off abuse.  Please do not let this be her end, please someone make room for her and show her humans can be kind.  She has such an endearing smile.

Leona is mixed with a much smaller breed, maybe beagle as she is tiny and soooo precious.  She likes to get inbetween my legs and just peers up at me, so cute!

Elijah looks just like a german shepherd except for those ears.  He is a calm, and very well behaved loving boy who desperately needs a second chance.  If you are looking for a laid back, easy going boy-here he is!
These next four kiddo's were dumped on a mans property as pups and he kept them for a few months and then brought them to shelter.  They are clearly dane mixes, they are huge and only 7 mos old.  All big babies, one female and the rest male.  They aren't very sure about leashes so we carried them out to an area they could all run and play together to get some better photos.  They are adorable and my favorites at the shelter.  Please someone make room for them!!!!!

297141-2 year old female staffordshire mix-Oh, how we all love Greta.  We were able to convince the shelter not to eu her yesterday as she is such a treasure.  She is good with other dogs, and even if one acts aggressively towards her she just turns the other way trying to find one to play with.  She is so loving and affectionate and thinks she is a lap baby.  Please someone look past that bully exterior and give Greta a chance.

National Association of Pet Rescue Professionals
Welcome to all of our new members!
May has been a complicated month for me. As you may have read on the NAPRP web site, my company Logical Expressions organized a conference this month. I was really busy, but I'm still going to manage to squeak in a May teleseminar for you.
Yesterday, I did a webinar for the nice folks at the Pepsi Refresh project. The attendees were people who have received a Pepsi Refresh grant that relates to pets. The attendees seemed to enjoy it, so I thought I'd present it again for you too.
Here's the description:
Go Beyond the Event: Use Publicity to Recruit More Volunteers, Find Foster Families, and Increase Adoptions
Most people think about publicity in the context of bringing people to events or raising money. But publicity can bring you other benefits as well. You can use simple and affordable publicity tactics to recruit volunteers, find foster families and increase adoptions.
You'll learn online and offline tactics including:
  • How to craft an irresistible story the media will love.
  • Creative ways to spread the word by leveraging what you already have.
  • Gain word-of-mouth support and build buzz
Publicity doesn't have to be complicated, expensive or "scary." Even if you're a bit shy or introverted, using just a few simple publicity tactics, you can spread the word about the great things you're doing to help the animals!
I'll send out the call-in information the day before like I usually do, but since that's Memorial Day, I'll put it here too, so you can put it on your calendar before all the holiday madness begins.
The teleseminar will be Tuesday, May 31st at 2:00pm Pacific
If you want to listen via your computer, visit:
http://InstantTeleseminar.com/?eventID=20051544

I'll have a few slides, which you'll be able to see if you listen online. Or you can visit the NAPRP home page and download a PDF of the slides from the event listing on the right-hand side.
In other news, I was contacted by the folks at www.YourNameUniversity.com regarding a new fundraising program they have created for pet rescue organizations.
Basically it's an affiliate arrangement, so you get a unique link you can put on your Web site. If people buy through your link, they get a 10% discount and you get a 10% referral commission.
To join the program you obviously do need to have a web site. They also would like you to have an email list with at least 1,000 names and be willing to promote the program via social media.
If you're interested, just send an email to Larry@YourNameUniversity.com with your contact information and Web site. Also be sure to let Larry know that you heard about it from me ;-)
As always, thanks for all you do to help the animals!

NEED RESCUES FOR TWO WONDERFUL, EASILY ADOPTABLE DOGS!!!!!
They are at Harbor Shelter, 927 North Gaffey Street, San Pedro, California.
If you can help them, please call 310-548-2632 or just pick them up at the shelter!!!  They're waiting for YOU to save them!!!
TANK - ID#A1207940 - The PERFECT PITBULL!
My name is Tank and I am an unaltered male, gray and gray tiger Bulldog and Pit Bull Terrier.
The shelter thinks I am about 1 year and 1 month old.
I weigh approximately 62 pounds.   I have been at the shelter since May 06, 2011.
Volunteers say he's GREAT with kids and dogs and walks beautifully on leash (after 5 minutes out of cage).  Very affectionate, playful, medium-energy, sweet  and loving cuddlebug!!!  The perfect pittie!!!! Already neutered, so he's ready to go home right away!  Can you help this very lovely pitbull to get out of the shelter, please?

MOON - ID#A1214482-  Handsome Hound Dog
My name is Moon and I am an unaltered male, blue ticked Bluetick Coonhound.

The shelter thinks I am about 4 years old.
I weigh approximately 54 pounds. I have been at the shelter since May 19, 2011.
Beautiful Coonhound, who was devastated at being dumped at the shelter.  He was so sad and just couldn't understand what had happened to him.  He was very frightened when I approached his cage, but once I was in with him, he accepted me and he understood I was there to help him.  Walks beautifully on-leash, but of course, loves to sniff a lot -- it's in his genes!!   Moon would love to live somewhere in the country and would make a wonderful companion to sit on the porch with and watch the sunsets!!!  Very cool dog!!!

Thank you!
