Many LA: Two dogs found at city dump have lived on borrowed time at shelter

Thelma and Louise

Please crosspost these two... they look like fabulous dogs, and they
must be, or else this high kill shelter would not have let them live
this long!

Subject: Thelma and Louise. Last call
I apologize putting last call, but this is really what it is!! They have
been at a kill shelter in Many La over a month.  We have had some interest
in them and they are beautiful healthy dogs. But no adoptions. We do not
have many people coming in!! We advertise and even have a huge billboard but
things are slow.
Thelma is the brown and white and Louise is darker reddish color. They
are sisters. They both weigh about 40 lbs and I don't think they will get
much bigger. They are about 10 months old and are  friendly to people and
other dogs. They have had their 4-1 and kennel cough shots. If we can find a
home we will fully vet them and try to spay them!!  They have sweet
personalities. They were found at a city dump. Help if at all possible!!
Thanks Ellen

LaPlace LA: Update St John Animal Shelter-"where are the cat rescues? Are you going to let the dog rescues show you up?"

Thank you to the Rescue groups that have come to help relieve our overcrowding. ARNO has taken 10 dogs, the most by a single rescue group at one time this month. Angel's Dad, RSPCA (the only group to take any cats), Don't be Cruel, Vet Adoptions, Texas Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue, Creole Poodle Rescue, Zeus's Place and Happy Yappy Rescue. I apologize if I have missed anyone. We do still have too many cats. Besides the RSPCA, where are the cat rescues? Are you going to let the dog rescues show you up?

While it is true that The St. John Parish Animal Control Officers will be attending their annual re-certification classes next week, the shelter will be open.  Some services such as stray pickups may be limited.  Personnel, both employees and volunteers, will be at the shelter to continue caring for the animals.    Yes, we currently are at full capacity and have many cute and loving animals who are looking for a new home and it would help these animals if all supporting groups would help find these new homes!  Please visit www.petfinder.com to see these animals.

On Sat, Jul 9, 2011 Lydia Caldwell <lydiacaldwell2010@yahoo.com> reports that Jane's Air Conditioner unit is back up! Hooray! But Dakota still URGENTLY needs a foster or adopter!  He soon will have nowhere to stay!

If some kind person wishes to help Jane pay for the A/C work ($176.00 that she DOESN'T have), that would be great, but the A/C repairman (Charles Lambert of Lambert A/C & Heating) took a post-dated check and still repaired it for her! :)

So, if anyone would like to help Jane Barwell out, Lydia writes that "this poor woman is about to go into foreclosure, has no job and is beyond overwhelmed. In fact, her financial meltdown is precisely why she is giving up Dakota.  As she puts it, she has no idea where she, herself, is going to be living in a few weeks."

Call 713-699-5496 if you can foster, adopt, rescue, or donate for Dakota. Dakota IS SUFFERING; His human is in foreclosure, unemployed and their A/C unit died yesterday!!!!!!!!! He needs a cool place to stay today and maybe tomorrow.  IF YOU CAN HELP IN ANY WAY, PLEASE CALL JANE BARWELL @ 713-699-5496

One individual is already offering to pay for bathing/grooming TODAY at Westbury Animal Hospital, so he can get all of that done, while the A/C.
I was able to get an $13.50 rate at Pets Play Palace on Kirby/W. Holcombe with the manager, Anthony, if Dakota brings his own crate.  However, Jane does not even have that much to work with; donations would need to be raised for a day or two at the most, I'm thinking.
Jane is scrambling to find funds for the A/C, etc., so she's not available to do all the transporation for Dakota to go to these places, etc.
IF you or someone you know can help, please call HER and let her know:  713-699-5496.
There is only so much I can do and I'm working hard at trying to find Dakota a responsible Foster or permanent home, which is VERY time consuming!!!!!!!!
Please feel free to forward this around to anyone you think may be able to help in some way.
Thanks!
Lydia
