Our animal control officer responded to a call that a dog was tied up at a local high school. We posted her picture on the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter's facebook page and a local cab driver gave us some sad information. The cabbie picked the dog and her family up at a local hotel. The family was homeless and the woman taking the family in temporarily refused to allow the family to bring the dog. The family was going to abandon the dog at the hotel but the cab driver convinced them to bring the dog with them and to call the shelter the next day. Unfortunately, they tied the dog up instead so her name and history is a mystery. We have named her Lena and aged her between 8-10. SRAS is looking for a senior dog rescue or permanent foster home for her. She is a well behaved girl who prefers to chill outside in her run. She appears to be housebroken and doesn't react to other dogs. After a shy start Lena is starting to show signs of friendliness and sociability, soliciting affection. She tested positive for Lyme and is currently on Doxy and weighs 50 lbs.
If anyone can help, please contact Somerset Regional Animal Shelter at 908.725.0308.
