- CODE RED!! - 4 sweet HW positive dogs in Aiken County (& 9 puppies)

CODE RED: DIE MONDAY!!
LULU
Lulu, senior Great Dane mix, very quiet, very sweet.   Had a rescue, but they backed out.  HW positive.

NINA and pups
Nina and her 9 puppies dumped at the shelter to die!!  Her pups about 2 months old.  Nina is HW positive, and about 35 lbs.

MELISSA
Melissa, 5 yrs, HW positive, recent mama - Did not come in with her pups, 35 lbs.  Her teats are drawing up some, but this poor girl has clearly been over bred, and was then dumped at the shelter without her last litter. Very friendly and lively.

GARTH
Garth, Black lab mix, male, 53 lbs, HW positive WE asked the vet at the shelter to look at Garth's head and it is just dried skin possibly from an old scabbed wound; did not find anything contagious.  Very friendly, in kennel with another large dog.
Aiken County SC animal shelter changed its long standing policy on June 11, 2014 to allow SOME light HW positive dogs on the adoption floor.  Sadly, there are many others who do not 'make the cut'... these dogs are all HW positive, and cannot be adopted by the public.  Their ONLY WAY OUT is if a 501c3 rescue saves them.

This is an open admission county shelter and it is extremely overcrowded. (4-5 dogs in a run, and more being dumped by an uncaring public every day.  This is the WORST summer we have ever seen.)  These dogs MUST get OUT immediately!!!  This shelter does not have a 'specific kill date', it is simply a matter of space.  They aren't allowed on the adoption floor, and if no rescue steps up to save them, then the shelter walls are the last sight they will see.
The HeartBeat Program tries to raise funds for treatment, which will go to the rescue that pulls the dog.  PLEASE HELP, dont let these dogs down. DONATE to this fundraiser, share the story, help us find a rescue.

Contact: onlywayout@shelteranimaladvocates.com if you are a rescue, and can provide assistance in helping these dogs.  Please do not call the Aiken Co SC shelter.

Only a 501(c)3 can pull a HW positive dog that does not make it to adoption floor.

If the beneficiary of the fundraiser is euthanized because no rescue steps forward the money raised will be put toward the next heartworm positive dog that doesn't 'make it' to the adoption floor.
