Yogi A1019287 - 1 yr.. 4 mo. Male Tibetan Terrier, OS, 26.6 POUNDS:
Dog Name: Yogi

Reason for surrender: Owners had no time for Yogi

Relationship: Yogi was owned for 7 months was a gift from a family member.

People: Yogi lived with all adults but has been around children and he is fearful he will be tense and growl. Owner suggests he don't be in a house with children. Yogi have to adjust to new people he meets.

Other Animals: Yogi doesn't get along with other dogs. He will bark and growl if he sees one. Owner suggests if he goes to a home make sure he is the only pet. Yogi had never been around cats.

Personality/Habits: Owner stated that Yogi is very loving to family members. Yogi activity level is to a medium. He likes to play with balls, stuffed toys and bones. Yogi enjoys taking baths and to be brushed but doesn't like to be groomed by the vet. He growls if owner tries to take toy or treat out of his mouth. Yogi will bark if unfamiliar people approach the house. If home with Yogi he will follow around the house or be in the same room as owner. If home alone Yogi will bark and destroy household items. Owner stated that Yogi is playful, excitable and mellow.

Training: Yogi is mostly housetrained. He will use the bathroom on piddle pads and get walked on a leash daily. Yogi has never been off a leash when outside. Yogi is nervous of storms and fireworks. Yogi knows command SIT. Yogi is crate trained he is use to being in a crate 15 hours a day.

Feeding: Yogi eats dry food twice a day called Wellness. Yogi likes Treats called Nutri-Source Lamb flavor that looks like bones.

Behavior upon intake: Yogi was playful and friendly with owner but when admission counselor came to approach him he was tense. Didn't allow handling.

SAFER: EXPERIENCED HOME, NO CHILDREN
Yogi lived previously with adults, and is reported to be tense around children. He needs time to adjust to new people.  He is also noted to bark and growl at other dogs.  The previous owner recommends that Yogi be the only pet in an adult-only home. He growled at the owner if they removed a toy or treat from his mouth.  At the time of intake, Yogi was playful and relaxed with the owner but became tense when a stranger (the Admissions Counselor) approached, and he would not allow handling. Yogi was also uncomfortable with handling during his initial medical exam, lunging and growling.

Yogi allowed all handling items in SAFER but was tense and uncomfortable.  He did not engage with any of the resources and was not concerned when they were removed.  He approached the helper dog with soft body language.  It has taken Yogi several days to acclimate to this environment and even at this point he is not entirely comfortable with new people in the care center.  Due to this behavior and to the concerns voiced by his previous owner, we recommend experienced adopters and a home without children.
