Wilson County Sheriff Calvin Woodard said...

"I didn't say anything about this during the campaign because I didn't want anyone to think I did that to get votes," Woodard said after winning the election Tuesday. "I wanted people to vote for me based on my record and what had already been done."  Woodard said the timing was not ideal to talk about that change.  "We will be using lethal injection — I believe it is Phenobarbital — for animals that are tame that we can rub and pet," Woodard said. "For animals that are real scared we will use something to calm them down."  Woodard said he doesn't really want to use any method to euthanize animals.  "That is one of the hardest things anybody can ever do," Woodard said. "Those animals only want a place to live and be loved. They don't want or deserve to die. What we want is to adopt those dogs and cats to loving homes."  Woodard said they won't use the gas chamber for feral animals either.
