Statesville, NC
- IN NEED - Great Pyrenees, Chihuahuas, Corgi & Poodle & more!!!

These animals are located at Iredell County Animal Services in Statesville, NC!

These animals are in need of Rescue Groups to save them!

At this time, Iredell County Animal Services does NOT have transport "connections", so it will be UP TO THE RESCUE wanting to pull the animal to coordinate transport!

If there is an animal listed that you are interested in pulling or have questions about, please email Tina at: rescuepets@co.iredell.nc.us      (at     co.iredell.nc.us), and please provide the animals name (and/or Animal ID#), your name and the rescue group you are affiliated with! If you have not pulled from ICAS before please fill out attached Rescue Group Application (Breed Placement Package) and either email or fax in!

If there is an animal listed that you are interested in helping, by either donating/sponsoring money to help pay their pull fee's, or would like to offer assistance in transporting the animal, please email Tina at: rescuepets@co.iredell.nc.us       (at     co.iredell.nc.us), and please provide your name (1st and last), the animals name (and/or Animal ID#), and a contact phone number for you.

Please be patient while waiting on a reply.   Please remember working at a shelter, the animals here at the shelter are my 1st priority (so I may have to clean or care for animal before checking emails), and I am not in my office throughout the whole day (I am often taking pictures of animals, cleaning, answering phones or helping in adoptions).  I also do not check my emails after shelter hours (this includes weekends), but I promise to check each and every one of your emails and get in touch with each of you in order as the emails come to me!

Thank you for understanding!

*** LAST DAY --- NOT A SINGLE OFFER ON THIS DOG ***
Rowdy (A186250) is a 2 year young Feist mix that was brought to the shelter as a stray and was never claimed by an owner. Upon intake he was very timid and was scheduled to be put to sleep. When he got to the room Rowdy was very sweet and had come out of his shell. We decided that he could be placed for adoption, but then when he had his medical exam we discovered he was heartworm positive! Rowdy is in need of rescue! He needs  a 3rd chance... being picked up, being set to be put down and now heartworm positive, Rowdy just can't catch a break! He seems to be fine with other dogs and loves to play! He is full grown and 32.4 lbs.

Intake date: 3/18/15
Needs to be CLAIMED, and OUT OF THE SHELTER by 5:00 pm on: 4/7/15, or will be put down.

Rescue pull fee's:
$45 - rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, dewormed, heartworm tested (POSITIVE)
$80 - rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, dewormed, heartworm tested (POSITIVE), neuter, microchip.

Harold - (A187499) is a 7 year old, neutered/male, Terrier blend that came to the shelter as a stray. This rough looking boy is super sweet and deserves to be loved! His skin scrape was negative, we suspect major allergy issues is the cause of his fur loss. Harold also has a cyst on his neck that we do NOT believe is cancer. We have started him on antibiotics in hopes it will help his skin. Harold is 46 lbs and his skin is improving since he has been on antibiotics! We are sad that no owner came forward to claim him and we know he would make a great pet!

Intake date: 3/30/15
Needs to be CLAIMED, and OUT OF THE SHELTER by 5:00 pm on: 04/14/15, or could be put down.

Rescue pull fee's:
$45 - Rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, deworming, already neutered, heartworm test (NEGATIVE)

General adoption WITH signed medical waiver (this boy would need someone to take him to the vet and possibly even have blood work to help determine if it is allergies or a thyroid or any other medical issue):
$80 - Rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, de-worming, neutered, heartworm test (NEGATIVE), micro-chipped.

Fredrick (A187452) a 9 year young, neutered/male, Corgi came in with a 10 year old blind poodle (Frita - A187453). Neither were claimed by an owner.  They appear to have been together for some time.  Fredrick seems to comfort Frita and is almost like her seeing eye dog.  Fredrick is hefty and in need of a good grooming.  He weighs 41 lbs and is heartworm negative.  We would LOVE to see a rescue pull both Fredrick and Frita together, but we do understand that sometimes that is not possible, but it is worth a shot!

Intake date: 3/27/15
Needs to be CLAIMED, and OUT OF THE SHELTER by 5:00 pm on: 4/14/15, or could be put down.

Rescue pull fee:
$45 - Rabies vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, dewormed, heartworm tested (NEGATIVE), frontline applied, already neutered.

Frita - (A187453) is an 8-10 year old, female, Blind Poodle, missing teeth, and has matted fur.  She was picked up as a stray, along with a 9 year young Corgi (Fredrick - A187452), and neither were claimed by an owner.  Frita mostly just lies around and sleeps.  We have not noticed any behavior issues with her.  Fredrick seems to be a seeing eye dog for her, and they appear to be bonded.  Due to age and medical we are unable to adopt to the general public.  We would LOVE to see Frita and Fredrick be placed in Rescue together, but we do know that sometimes that is not possible, but we are willing to try.  Frita weighs 14.8 lbs.

Intake date: 3/27/15
Needs to be CLAIMED, and OUT OF THE SHELTER by 5:00 pm on: 4/14/15, or could be put down.

Rescue pull fee's:
$45 - rabies vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, bordetella vaccine, deworming, heartworm test (NEGATIVE)
** AT THIS TIME NOT OFFERING SPAY DUE TO AGE/HEALTH **

Buster B (A187454) is a Chihuahua blend that came in with 10 other Chihuahuas and mixes from one home. Buster B is a little nervous, but has shown no aggression while here at the shelter.  He is the largest of the group, but still just as cute as the others!  We will know more about Buster B's weight, age and heartworm status after his medical exam, which should be very soon!

Intake date: 3/27/15
Needs to be CLAIMED, and OUT OF THE SHELTER by 5:00 pm on: 4/15/15.

Rescue pull fee's:
$45 - Rabies vaccine, Distemper/Parvo vaccine, bordetella-nasal, heartworm test (PENDING), deworming
$80 -  Rabies vaccine, Distemper/Parvo vaccine, bordetella-nasal, heartworm test (PENDING), deworming, microchip, neuter

Depending on medical findings if healthy enough & with signed behavior memo (we do not recommend a loud home or home with children)... general adoption fee:
$80 - Rabies vaccine, Distemper/Parvo vaccine, bordetella-nasal, heartworm test (PENDING), deworming, microchip, neuter.

*** LAST DAY - WILL EXTEND TO END OF WEEK - NOT A SINGLE OFFER FOR THIS GIRL***
Hailey (A187060) is a 2 year young, Shepherd mix that was surrendered to the shelter after the owner stated her neighbor shot her while she was on her own property. She is on antibiotics and seems to be healing well, but still has bruising, swelling and drainage. Through her exams and being messed with Hailey has been a champ! She is very sweet and tested well with other dogs while here. Although it is uncertain why exactly the neighbor shot her, we heard something about she likes to chase bikes and maybe this was the cause?? Either way Hailey needs your help! Due to possible post medical issues she is not up for general adoption. She is still healing from her wounds and needs time to heal. She is full grown at 54.5 lbs.

Intake date: 3/24/15
Needs to be CLAIMED, and OUT OF THE SHELTER by 5:00 pm on: 4/7/15, or will be put down.

Rescue pull fees:
$45 - rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, deworming, heartworm tested (NEGATIVE)
$80 - rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, deworming, heartworm tested (NEGATIVE), microchip, spay.

We received a call about people who had moved out of a home and left their dogs behind. We found the owners who were unable to keep their dogs, but had been going to the previous home to care for them. The owners surrendered them over to the shelter. One of those dogs was Dixie (A177961) a 12 year old, spayed/female Sharpei/Shepherd mix. Dixie is 49 lbs, heartworm negative and due to thinning fur on her rear we did a Woodslamp (negative)  skin scrape was negative. It is possible that this is from an allergy. She has short prickly fur like a Sharpei, but looks somewhat like a Shepherd mix. She is gentle, nice and pretty laid back. She lived with a younger dog so we assume she would be ok with other dogs. We are hoping there are some senior lovers out there that would like to give Dixie a chance at living a great life with the time she has left!

Intake date: 3/24/15
Needs to be CLAIMED, and OUT OF THE SHELTER by 5:00 pm on: 4/15/15, or will be put down.

Rescue pull fee's:
$45 - rabies vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, bordetella vaccine, deworming, heartworm test (NEGATIVE), will confirm if spayed

May consider general adoption with signed waiver due to age:
$80 - rabies vaccine, distemper/parvo vaccine, bordetella vaccine, deworming, heartworm test (NEGATIVE), spayed, microchip.

Gwar - (A186666), an 8 month old Chihuahua blend that was brought in as a stray and never claimed by an owner.  This boy is a handful, and has shown some behavior challenges.   He does NOT do well in the shelter environment, although he has made fast friends with our cleaning crew who he plays with, and allows them to carry him around.  Strangers on the other hand are not able to do this.  Because he does show so much potential with people he deals with regularly, we think he could be a good pet.  It is common for smaller breeds, especially Chihuahuas, to attach to 1 or 2 people and that is it.  We think he will be like this.  So a home with no children, and that doesn't have a lot of different people in and out often.  Due to this, we cannot place him for general adoption so we are reaching out to rescue groups. Gwar weighs 9 lbs.

Intake date: 3/23/15
Needs to be CLAIMED, and OUT OF THE SHELTER by 5:00 pm on: 4/14/15, or will be put to sleep.

$80 - Rabies vaccine, Distemper/Parvo vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, dewormed, heartworm tested (NEGATIVE), frontline applied, neuter, microchip.

A187595 is a Great Pyrenees that was picked up when Animal Control received a call about a big fluffy dog walking down the road with a pig. He has not yet been evaluated and is fearful so we are actually not sure if he is a male or a female at this time.  Though this dog has not been evaluated and date is not up yet we are getting the word out since larger breeds like this have been more challenging for us to place.  We are reaching out to Rescue Groups familiar and experienced with this breed.

Intake date: 4/6/15 - Available date: 4/10/15.

Goomba - (A117413), a 7 year young, male Chihuahua came to the shelter, along with 10 other Chihuahua's and mixes. Goomba is a little nervous, even more so since his kennel mate left for rescue.  Goomba will soon have a medical exam where we will know more about his heartworm status, teeth and weight.  So far everyone else has been heartworm negative, and he looks to be 6-7 lbs.

Intake date: 3/27/15
Needs to be CLAIMED, and OUT OF THE SHELTER by 5pm on: 4/15/15, or could be put to sleep.

Rescue pull fee's:
$45 - Rabies vaccine, Distemper/Parvo vaccine, bordetella-nasal, heartworm test (PENDING), deworming
$80 -  Rabies vaccine, Distemper/Parvo vaccine, bordetella-nasal, heartworm test (PENDING), deworming, microchip, neuter

May consider general adoption to calmer home with no children and with a signed waiver (depending on health exam):
$80 - Rabies vaccine, Distemper/Parvo vaccine, bordetella-nasal, heartworm test (PENDING), deworming, microchip, neuter.
