10/2/2015 POST

As of Oct 2, 2015, Serena and daughter Mandi are still seeking adoptive home. To adopt them, contact Rescuer/Foster Mom JC at jchppl@gmail.com

Rescuer/Foster Mom Jeannice posted Serena's and Mandi's story (see below) on January 3, 2015. The two are still seeking adoption to a deserving family. Many thanks to kind donors(!) who helped with their initial vet bills;  they were rescued around Christmas 2014 along with Banda the Bulldog/Boxer mix who had severe injuries and is also available for adoption now (see her post HERE).

Serena Mom's Story

I was living outside at a house with another black lab. Then I had 3 babies. Next thing I know my owner left me, along and the others. People came and started tearing down the house. It scared us and the 5 of us all ran off. I don’t know what happened to everyone else but I ended up at another house across the street along with my daughter, Mandi and one of my other babies. We were happy there for a short time. We could run around outside (no fence) and there were other dogs and kids to play with.

Dogs at a deserted house in 2014
Once again, the owners left me, Mandi and a few other dogs. I am not sure what happened to my other baby and a blond chow that was with us. There was either 4 or 5 of us left. My foster mom had been watching all of this the whole time and when she realized we were abandoned AGAIN started feeding us. She put out a plea for help. With no response and worried that we were either going to be picked up OR the house was about to be torn down, she caught me and Mandi at Christmas 2014. The other two dogs ran off but one came back (Banda) and was found inside the house (back door was open). She was severely hurt with a broken leg and had been used as pit bait. The male big brown dog was never seen again. Several of us were pregnant, him being the father, he probably went back home once we left.

She brought us to her home where we have shelter, can go inside and out through a dog door, all the food and treats we want! Even beds, a fan and a/c! We didn’t even know how to eat separately out of a bowl!

I am about 3 years old. I was altered, vaccinated and microchipped. I am heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. I LOVE to be petted, belly rubbed and to play with toys and with Mandi and Banda. I do like to chew on my plastic food bowl. I am good on a leash and learning to ride in a car. We have some work to do. I know sit and learning general training. I am VERY gentle and sweet natured. BUT when I sleep I need my ‘space’.

I am ok with people just a little shy at first. I should be okay with other dogs as I was around several of them at my prior homes. I was also around several boys and girls at the second house ages 5-15. I will make someone very happy as I am so loving and easy going! If possible, I would love to have my daughter Mandi with me too - we play so well together. I can send videos and more pictures!

Last year she led a desperate life, but now she is relaxed in rescue

A little more about Mandi

I am a little over 1 year old. I was altered, vaccinated and microchipped. I am heartworm positive but on heartworm preventative. I was retested in August 2015 and no longer show any baby heartworms just still have adults so considered low positive.
I LOVE to be petted, belly rubbed and to play with toys and with Serena and Banda. I love to RUN with my  mom in the big yard, play stand off, then go get her!!! She will turn around and go after me too!
I am high energy and can jump a six foot fence.  (I only wanted to be closer and with my foster mom!)
Mandi & Serena are relaxed in foster care
I am doing well on a leash. I am afraid of cars though. I know sit and learning general training. I am also learning about riding in a car. I knew nothing and learning some do’s and don’ts since I like to go after anything that makes noises like lawnmowers, weed eaters, and bicycles.
I am ok with people after a brief introduction.  I should be okay with other dogs as I was around several of them at my prior homes. All I really want to do is play but may need a slow introduction.  I was around several boys and girls at the second house ages 5-15.
I will make someone very happy if they will have some patience with me.  If possible, I would love to have my mom, Serena, with me too as I LOVE being with her!

Mandi likes to ‘chomp’ her mouth when she doesn’t like something or is unsure. She has a foot fetish also.  She will look at your feet and mouth your shoes. Mandi may take her blankets out the dog door – and Serena does too. Mandi is becoming so loving as she is learning what it means to be loved! She is torn between being with her Mom Serena and her foster mom. She is always close to the foster mom when not romping with her Mom Serena or Banda. Videos can be sent on all of them!
