Betty Chow at the Humane Society of the Black Hills SD

We have a 2-year-old female chow named Betty here at the shelter. She is a little shy, but warms up nicely and loves to be in your lap once she knows you. She did very well on her behavior evaluation and is currently available for adoption. However, because she is initially shy coupled with public perception of her breed, nobody is interested in her.

She has been at the shelter for over a month now and is starting to show signs of stress. She originally came in with another female dog as a stray. She was kenneled with the other female and was given meals with her. There were never any issues between them. She also doesn't exhibit any food aggression towards people. She went to the groomer a couple of weeks ago and did great there being handled (she didn't like the dryers) and around the other dogs. She was very curious about the cat there, but not aggressive. She has not officially been cat tested. It would be wonderful if she could go to a rescue with breed specific knowledge
