Hi, Liz!

I'm finally now sending you the list of rescue groups who took in some number of my mom's kitties, thereby saving them (and me!) as a result.  It's taken me so long to get to this as a result of being so busy with everything (I'm so sorry!) that I hope it's still not too late to post this info.

Btw, there were a couple of private individuals who adopted some kitties, too, and they were already screened and approved by a couple of different rescues (in one case), or screened and home-checked by the generous rescuer who recently relocated to Big Bear (and the adoptive mom had also done rescue in the past!).

So, here's the list of those who saved us, and thank you so much again for all of your help, Liz!!  I am so grateful to you!  ~ Kristin

Hello, everyone -

Unbelievably, all sweet kitties have found safe placements!!!  I am still (and always will be!) in awe of how generous and amazing each of you have been to help.  My words of thanks are truly inadequate to express the depth of my gratitude for you.

36 kitties have found safe placements, and the 37th one, Midnight, is still hiding at my mom's roommate's house.  He's the one whom I mentioned might ultimately be too skittish to be adopted into a home, and he might be the best fit for a sanctuary in the future.  I tried to trap him for several days (with a humane trap, of course!), but he was too savvy to fall for it.  So, my mom's roommate has agreed to keep him temporarily until he either becomes more comfortable and less scared, or until it's clear that he needs a professional trapper and a sanctuary situation.  Although my mom's roommate is not cut out for being a cat parent in the long-term (for a variety of reasons!), he will be able to take care of Midnight adequately enough until it's clear as to what the best long-term plan would be for the kitty.  At that point, I'll probably be contacting some of you from Dallas (my apologies in advance!) to see if it might be possible to find a suitable placement for Midnight (at least just one kitty, not 37!).

It was exactly one month ago that I last saw my mom alive.  Right before I said goodnight to her at the hospital on June 20th, she had been talking about how eager she was to get stronger so that we could work together on finding homes for her rescue cats.  She was (and had been for quite some time) very distressed about their future as she continued to battle two different types of cancer.  By the next evening, on June 21st, she had passed away, much to everyone's surprise (including hers, I believe).  This was a terrible shock in more ways than I can describe (e.g., she had been gaining strength and seemed to be getting better, she was only 65 years old, etc.).  As devastated as I was and am, your help in finding safe placements for my mom's precious, beloved kitties has been - without a doubt - the most meaningful thing that I or you could have ever done for her.  It has br

ought me more peace of mind during this time (and forever, really) than I ever could have hoped for.

You all are truly miracle-workers, and I can never thank you enough (but I'll try)!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you,

Hello, again!

I wanted to send out another update (and please just let me know if the attached photos don't come through to your email, so that I can send them in a different format).

I am very happy to say that as a result of everyone's incredible generosity with networking and with offers to take in some kitties, there are "only" 5 kitties left for me to find places for at this point!  Given that there were 37 sweet ones to begin with, I am overjoyed that you all have found safe placements for 32 kitties!  I am so touched by your help in this time of true crisis for me and the kitties.

I have been trying to negotiate as much flexibility as possible around my deadline, so I am also happy to report that I have a couple of extra days and a new deadline of Thursday, July 21st.  I promise that I'm not trying to drive us all crazy with these changing deadlines; I'm just trying to find options for the kitties to be safe!

These remaining 5 kitties are having a difficult time adjusting to my mom's absence and the absence of their friends and siblings.  I imagine that they are truly in shock!  I've described them below, and please just let me know if you think you might be able to help any of them.  I appreciate you all so very much!

Thank you (forever!),

~Kristin

Ravi

These sweet cats have just lost their human mom to cancer, as have I.  My mom recently died unexpectedly, and although I am truly heartbroken at losing my mom, I am trying to do my best to help her many rescue cats find homes by July 21st, before I have to head back to my job in Dallas.  My mom's heart for rescuing cats was bigger than her physical stamina for adopting them out, especially once she became sick with cancer; there were 37 sweet cats to begin with and 5 remaining (all spayed/neutered) who are at risk of going to a shelter and being euthanized.  I am currently in Big Bear, CA (where my mom lived), but I am very happy to drive anywhere to provide my mom's cats with a chance of survival.

  • Sabrina (pictured on the left) and Crystal (pictured on the right) are two gorgeous solid grey kitties.  They are scared right now, but they have very sweet temperaments when they are comfortable.
  • Ravi (black with white ear-whiskers) is similarly scared and would probably need a fair amount of time to regain his affectionate personality.  Once he does, though, it's easy to see that he's a sweet cuddlebug with a charmingly chirpy meow.
  • Starling (not pictured due to hiding too well!) is a solid black cat who is also quite scared and unsettled, but who is a sweetheart when he's feeling more settled.
  • Midnight (also not pictured due to hiding too well!) is a solid black cat as well.  He's very scared and skittish right now, so much so that he might actually do best in a sanctuary setting.
Although these kitties are the ones who are having the hardest time with my mom's death and the resulting changes in their environment, they are also the kitties whom I believe are extra-deserving of any patience and understanding that we can offer them!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my mom and her sweet cats.  If you have room in your heart and home for any of these remaining 5 cats, then please contact me (I'd love to hear from you!):

At this moment, there are still 29, but there should be only 12 left by this Sunday!  I am very happy to report that I've been given an extension by my job, so my new deadline is Tuesday, July 19th (vs. the original July 14th).  I hope this new time-frame offers possible placements for the remaining 12, whom I deeply hope can secure a safe placement as well.

If you would be willing to continue your generous assistance (again, I know!), perhaps each and every kitty will have a safe place to go by the 19th next week!  I hope you know that I am deeply thankful for and humbled by all of your help.

Thank you so very much,

~Kristin
