Hi Liz,  I have had zero replies or interest in Humphrey.  Poor boy is sitting in a boarding facility and has been for months.  We have networked everywhere and START has sent to their rescue partners with no avail.  I would give him to a reputable rescue after we checked them out.  I would also want a contract signed that he cannot be euthanized.  If they had issues of any kind I would take him back.  He really is a very nice boy who has energy and wants so badly to play and explore. I am hoping to find a home that has a yard with grass because he is constantly scraping in one foot on the concrete kennel floor.

6/30 POST

Someone out there would make a perfect companion for Happy Humphrey. This is a dog who has showed enormous patience, congeniality and optimism during his recovery from a spine fractured in two places as a result of a motorist striking him. Please share to find this amazing dog the home of his dreams.

Contact: Pat Bonham
Humphrey is an 80-pound dog who likes riding in the car and loves to play in the water. He gets along fine and needs no help to walk or run. Who knows how much more he can heal if he only gets the chance at a home and a place to use his legs and play and run?

His back-end swings a bit out of control if he runs too fast. He got occasional sores on his feet dragging them in his cement boarding kennel. Pat wrote, "This Dog won the hearts of all the staff at the Vets and they spoiled him with hugs and treats. Humphrey is a happy dog and has never given up...and neither have we."

Humphrey was on the euth list at the Devore Shelter and pulled by Pat Bonham in mid-December 2017. His owners had let him run loose and he was struck by a motorist and left on the side of the road.

Humphrey was in pain and his back legs were paralyzed, but he carried himself around by using his front legs. You can see a short clip of this in a video Pat shared on Christmas Day last year and which I included in a fundraising blog post.

Pat wrote, "HopeforPaws.org generously arranged for him to get an MRI and that is when we found his spine was fractured. Without the support of Hope For Paws, we would still be trying to raise funds just for the MRI.  Now we have continued for months with follow-up care, massage treatments, acupressure treatments and giving him time to heal. NOW he is NOT walking but RUNNING. This is an amazing recovery for a SPECIAL dog who had the strongest will to live and to have have FUN too."

After networking for a foster or forever for Humphrey without any luck, a friend of Pat's uploaded this video in June, and as you can see, a moving picture is worth a thousand words:

His Adopt-a-Pet page is HERE. He is a big, mixed-breed boy. Please share to find him an active family, hopefully with a grass yard so he can run and get stronger without hurting his feet and legs. He is 4 years old.

Do you know someone who would give him a loving home?  His adoption fee is reasonable to the right home and he is fully-vetted and microchipped. Humphrey has been so long in boarding but he is the happiest dog there...waiting patiently.

Pat wrote 6/25/18, "Humphrey is great in the car (and loves going thru a Hamburger Drive thru to get a meat patty), and if given his choice would run like the wind and chase every squirrel, Lizard and Bunny rabbit that crossed his path...therefore we are looking for a home without kitty cats. Although he has gone by the kitty cages many times at his stay at his vet and he never paid attention to them. I have had Humphrey with three of my big dogs and with proper introduction there was no problem at all.  He especially likes my Lab-Pit mix Gretchen in the video with him.
I think Humphrey would be the most awesome BALL or Frisby player. PLEASE SHARE ON ALL YOUR MEDIA SITES TO HELP GET HIM INTO A SAFE AND LOVING HOME. HE HAS WAITED SO LONG AND HE HAS NEVER GIVEN UP....HE HAS an AURA ABOUT HIM THAT SEEMS TO WIN THE HEART OF EVERYONE WHO MEETS HIM AND IS AN EXAMPLE OF AN AMAZINGLY SMART CANINE WHO TOOK EVERYTHING IN STRIDE AND LONGS FOR LIFES SIMPLE PLEASURES. PLEASE EMAIL ME AT ALPHADOGPETRESCUE@YAHOO.COM IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING HIM. OUR NON PROFIT PAYPAL IS DESERTDOGS@RockandRescue.org. Thank you for SHARING"
